To be annoyed that shampoos for greasy hair don't seem to exist anymore?

It's just so frustrating!

I was using the head and shoulders one for greasy hair (citrus I think?) but ran out and was trying to find a replacement that was not a dandruff shampoo as It wasn't really working for me anymore.

But can I find a decent shampoo for greasy hair anywhere?! Nooo!!

These seem to be the options:
Moisture
Shine
Volume
Ones for coloured hair
Sleek/straight
Fine/limp hair

But seemingly nothing to deal with greasy hair. Mine is really dry and damaged on the ends so I have to use quite an intensive conditioner but so far everything I've tried has made my hair greasy again as soon as I've washed it or has dried it out and made it feel weird.

I can't afford anything super expensive, I just want a normal shampoo. Aibu or am I just not looking hard enough?

So true! Especially if it's oily but coloured - all the ones for dyed hair seem to be so moisturising and anything that seems vaugely oil removing also kills my highlights...

Another vote for Alberto Balsam Apple shampoo. On offer in Tesco at the mo as well Smile

Clionba · 19/06/2018 17:45

Holland and Barratt Tea Tree shampoo. Fantastic.

Allegorical · 19/06/2018 17:47

Some call it clarifying shampoo I think. Treatment do a nice minty one. Not sure what it’s called.

Allegorical · 19/06/2018 17:48

Treseme!

QuestionableMouse · 19/06/2018 17:48

Micellar water shampoo is decent.

sharkirasharkira · 19/06/2018 17:49

I have a cheap apple/mango one, (I think it's superdrug own brand) at the moment but it seems to leave my hair oddly sticky and dry and it still gets greasy pretty quickly!

I've tried the clay one, didn't like it sadly, just left my hair feeling strange and not very clean.

I thought Ice Blue from Lush was a soap rather than a shampoo? I do like their shampoos and they actually do work quite well for me but my hair is long, I use a lot of shampoo and they're so expensive! I find that I get through them really quickly.

I only use shampoo on the roots and conditioner on the ends, have done for years but I'm struggling to find something at the moment that does the job, feel like I'm wasting so much money on crappy stuff that makes my hair feel horrible Sad

I think greasy has been replaced with the word clarifying as far as I can tell.

The L’Oréal clay one mentioned is pretty good but after a while it didn’t work for me. I tend to use Tresemme (the green one can’t remeber the name) maybe 3 times a week and a non ‘clarifying’ the others. I do wash my hair ever day though.

Pinkkahori · 19/06/2018 17:52

I have greasy hair and I like the Pantene Micellar shampoo and conditioner. I like gel textured shampoos rather than creamy which I never feel really clean my hair.

sharkirasharkira · 19/06/2018 17:54

@Namechange128 yes, I have coloured hair (although very similar to my natural colour) too and find that the 'treatments' for both are opposite!

Oily/greasy = clarifying/cleansing/degreasing etc
Coloured = super moisturing/gentle etc.

If you have both you are screwed! Any anti dandruff stuff is terrible for coloured hair too, it just washes it out.

but my hair is long, I use a lot of shampoo and they're so expensive!

Sorry if this seems like a stupid comment but if you're just using shampoo on the roots, why does it matter how long the hair is?

For me, I think the main thing is to just use shampoo on the first inch or two of your hair and spend 3-5 minutes properly massaging it into your scalp. I used to just stick it on, give it a quick rub, leave it on whilst shaving my legs etc, and then rub it again whilst washing it out. Since I started properly using it to wash my scalp thoroughly I only need to use it once a week (I just use conditioner on the other wash) and have no issues with greasiness.

TheNoseyProject · 19/06/2018 18:01

Totally agree! I switched to an eco shampoo and that solved it for me. I also tried the elvie green one but it’s tested on animals in China so stopped buying it. If you have a bodywork store near you they do a good greasy hair timote.

TheNoseyProject · 19/06/2018 18:05

The eco one is Kind Natured argan & kukui shampoo

AliceLutherNeeMorgan · 19/06/2018 18:06

I also came on the Neutrogena T-gel, but the therapeutic one (I think it has coal tar in, so you’ve got to not mind your chemicals!)

It’s the only thing that keeps my greasy hair under control. I’m very pleased to see all the recommendations for other things though; I’m going to try a few. So sick of greasy hair. Actually it’s better in summer when a bit sun-bleached, but probably only because that is so damaging!

sharkirasharkira · 19/06/2018 18:10

Ally, it's also quite thick and I don't like to wash it everyday so often by the time I get around to wash it I have to wash it twice to get rid of all the grease! I only shampoo my actual head.

I alternate between boots own brand apple shampoo and old fashioned Vosene. Both cheap, worth a try Sharkira

It makes my hair really shiny and I can get away with not washing it every day.
Also find batiste dry shampoo to be good, but if you have dark hair use one of the specific colour ones, otherwise the white residue takes a while to rub in or brush out.

PizzaAndChips · 19/06/2018 18:21

TRESemme Cleanse & renew Deep Cleansing Shampoo then TRESemme Remoisturising Conditioner

I, too, suffer from greasy hair and this seems to do the job (sorry about the changing font in this post Hmm).

sharkirasharkira · 19/06/2018 18:54

Fortunately I am blonde so I don't find the dry shampoo 'residue' too bad but I just hate the dry, chalky feeling that it gives me, makes me cringe! Currently I save it for emergencies only.

Thank you for the suggestions though!

Never tried Tresemme, I think the fact that they come in massive containers puts me off slightly as if they don't work I'll either be stuck with loads to use or have to throw away a big bottle Confused

gryffen · 19/06/2018 19:10

Vosene original or Alberto Basalm apple.

Linco beer shampoo was amazing for greasy hair if Superdrug still do it.

PizzaAndChips · 19/06/2018 19:16

I know what you mean about the bottle size. Suppose they're cheap enough though so you don't feel completely aggrieved like you may with something more expensive.

I originally bought the combination that I mentioned for my DSD because she had major build-up and her beautiful hair was looking dull. I instructed her to use it once a week to help with the problem and found that if I did the same it helped my greasy head, too!

noeffingidea · 19/06/2018 19:16

My daughter has greasy hair, I use the Aldi version of Tresemme deep clean (clarifying) shampoo. The hair wash lasts 3-4 days, though I don't put conditioner on.

noeffingidea · 19/06/2018 19:18

Sharkira I think Boots do small bottles of tresemme shampoo @£1.50.

sharkirasharkira · 19/06/2018 19:21

Ooh gryffen I've looked at that and always wondered if it was any good! They still do it in my one Grin

SharkSave · 19/06/2018 19:28

Yep you need clarifying shampoo. There's a good herbal essences one that's mint and something. Agree aswell that you need the see through gel type rather than creamy.
Also try not to rub your head too much when shampooing it can stimulate oil production or something.
Toni and guy do a really good it clarifying/cleansing shampoo, it's pretty harsh on your hair because it's so good so I limit it to once a week max
