to kind of want to watch Hereditary even though people are saying it's the scariest film ever...

And I don't particularly like scary movies, did as a teen but now I'm a wimp.

Have any of you seen it? How scary is it? In what way?

Is it just clever marketing?

I probably won't see it so don't worry about spoilers.

Is it scarier than It?

NewBallsPrettyPlease · 19/06/2018 13:56

People I know have posted on Facebook that the film is rubbish.

I'm a wuss though, so won't be seeing it either way!

FrolickingForklift · 19/06/2018 14:00

Ive not seen it but friends who have said it's not that scary. And it's too long

ChateauneufDuTwat · 19/06/2018 14:02

It's not scary.

And it's pretty dire.

Save your ££. Stay at home and watch a proper horror.

Pinkmonkeybird · 19/06/2018 14:04

I read a spoiler laden article about it yesterday which confirmed everything about the plot which I'd worked out from the trailer. Therefore, no need to watch it!

BellaJessica · 19/06/2018 14:04

Its all subjective isnt it? I loved IT both versions but didnt find them scary. Apart from one scene. I like subtle horror films that imply scary rather than full on so I lile the first paranormal activity and sixth sense. I cant wait to watch hereditary.

BeansandSausages · 19/06/2018 14:06

Go to moviespoiler.com and read up - apparently there is a lot of hype and it's not all it's cracked up to be.

TheStoic · 19/06/2018 14:06

That’s disappointing. I hate it when scary movies aren’t as scary as I expect them to be. Mind you, I also hate it when they are.

BeansandSausages · 19/06/2018 14:06

I should say obviously don't read up if you don't want to be spoiled... but if you want to watch something and not be scared, knowing what is coming may help...

Skyejuly · 19/06/2018 14:08

I read the spoilers too!

Bonez · 19/06/2018 14:09

I didn't particularly find it scary. The first hour was really slow and I thought the second hour would really pick up because of this but it didn't. It was a good film in itself but it's not scary (for me) and it's a bit too long.

ShutUpYouPigeon · 19/06/2018 14:10

It's not as scary as it's made out to be but still a good film.

Angryattheworld · 19/06/2018 14:11

I watched the original It the other day.
The bit with the shower heads just made me laugh tbh.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 19/06/2018 14:13

It isn’t scary it’s laughable. Sadly, it was my Father’s Day treat for DH, who loves a visit to The Curzon (best coffee ever), in the double seats. It was an unforgettable Father’s Day for all the wrong reasons, luckily he found it funny, literally. It is the worst film I have ever paid to see. No actually, it’s just the worst film I’ve ever seen.

thenightsky · 19/06/2018 14:13

I'm going to see it later this week with a friend. We both love horrors, but after reading this thread I'm thinking we might be wasting our time. I loved The Ring, The Grudge etc.

Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 19/06/2018 14:14

It's overhyped and not scary (and I'm a wuss when it comes to horror). There were people laughing at it in the screening I attended.

MidnightAura · 19/06/2018 14:16

It’s not scary. It’s slow, dull and at a so called scary bit the whole cinema burst out laughing and let me tell you, laughter should not have been the reaction.

My mum and I went to see it and we can’t believe all the reviews saying it’s a scary movie, it’s really not. It’s slower than a week in the jail (to quote my late Grandad)

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 19/06/2018 14:17

I am yet to see a negative ‘official’ review though. All gushing. I can only imagine it’s because Gabriel Byrne and Toni Collette are such excellent actors that it’s a kind of Emperor’s new clothes effect, no one can admit it’s a turkey. On the plus side at least they don’t add to the overall rubbishness, they do as good a job as they can, in the circumstances.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 19/06/2018 14:20

Iloved The Ring, The Grudge etc
Well it’s ‘art’ and art is subjective so, who knows, you might like it. But IMO it’s not anywhere near as good as those two films (in all their permutations).

MrsPreston11 · 19/06/2018 14:25

Thanks all The Grudge and The Ring etc are the type of horrors I like.

Creepy/eerie but not the awful torture porn that seems to be what most films are lately.

Shame to hear this one isn't worth the hype. I was a teen when the first Blair Witch came out and it had all the "scariest film ever" hype and was disappointed with that too.

katiegoestoaldi · 19/06/2018 14:29

The movies that are all gore and shocks don't scare me, for a truly horrifying movie watch The Orphanage Confused

UpstartCrow · 19/06/2018 14:35

I'm disappointed. Looks like I'll be watching some old favorites this weekend then.

MissionItsPossible · 19/06/2018 14:58

Oh, how disappointing as I like Toni Collette and (stupidly) believed the reviews for the 'scariest film ever'. I should have known having just looked it is a 15(?) They don't really make 18 horror films any more do they?

I have to say from all the scary things I have ever seen, only two things scared me. House of 1000 corpses because I watched it in a cinema with my sister and we were the only ones in there, having not known anything about the film and just seeing all these weird, torturous images. Made worse that when we left we went to the video shop and it was very seedy and strange and I felt like we were going to be captured like the characters in the film Shock

The second was the Season 2 finale of Twin Peaks. The episodes before those last two were not entertaining at all and I was getting bored by the whole thing so it took me by surprise and I ended up staying all night sleeping with the light on in my room.

CountArthursgroupie · 19/06/2018 17:28

Every couple of weeks there's one that's supposed to be the scariest ever, but one person's scare is another's giggle, isn't it? I've heard The Evil Dead described as a comedy, but I couldn't sit through it, I hid in the loo!
