To reapply for this job?

Hi. I applied for job in a team and for an interview. Post interview the team phoned me to tell me there was 1 point in it but they gave it to another candidate. They encouraged me to 're apply if another job came up.
Another job came up so I applied and the closing date was last week. I've just seen the same job advertised again. Does this mean there were no suitable candidates or I was the only one who applied hence they need to put it out again? I don't know whether to bother 're applying

Anyone?

They may not have had many applicants so extended the deadline. I would politely call and ask them.

user1490043295 · 18/06/2018 17:16

It means there was no suitable candidate. Although they should at least give you feedback as your a internal candidate. I would email hr to ask for feedback as to why you were not offered a interview

BigfluffybearBum · 18/06/2018 17:22

They seemed keen on me too Blush

That's very strange. If you were genuinely appointable and just a short time later another post became vacant I would tell you about it and advertise for a short time in the minimum number of places.

If they have put it back out again it usually means there was nobody suitable. Depending on application process it's worth checking they actually got your application form.

howardmoonseyebrow · 18/06/2018 20:35

Is it possible another vacancy has come up following the one you applied for ( second application)?

Anon12345ABC · 18/06/2018 20:39

I'd think they may not be as keen as they made out. In our organisation, if another position comes up and a suitable candidate was interviewed less than 6 months before, they are allowed to be offered the job.

Given you applied, the deadline has passed and the advert is back up, I'd say they want other applicants. Sorry.

BigfluffybearBum · 18/06/2018 20:49

It's NHS if that makes a difference. It's definitely the same job same hours etc. a friend told me that if they only have one applicant they put it back out I don't know if that's usually practice

Go for it again, you have absolutely nothing to lose x

mrsFruitLoops · 18/06/2018 20:55

Apply again...what have you got to lose?

JonSnowsCloak · 18/06/2018 21:37

If it's NHS and only one applicant we would quite often put it back out to advert, I would give them a call and ask especially if it's gone straight back out. We often wouldn't normally interview just the one person because of the admin involved but it depends on the job, is it a specialist area?

Di11y · 18/06/2018 21:43

Call and say you're still interested, would you prefer me to resubmit my application?

Neverender · 18/06/2018 21:44

I'm a hiring manager and would never go ahead with interviews without two candidates or more.

notacooldad · 18/06/2018 21:45

A couple of years ago I applied for a job in my local authority. The interview went really well with the professionals on the panel and so did the interview with the clients.
The manager phoned me back and said that all the way therough the interviews there was one clearer winner until I came along and shook things up. Alas, the other person got the job, they were already doing it as a temporary position but he told me a very similar job would be coming up in a few months and he wanted me to apply. He was on the phone for 25 minutes but I just put it down to platitudes and being nice.
A new post came up a few months later and it was a brand new team but doing more or less what I was originally interviewed for.I went for it and got it.

I had nothing to lose .The worse thing that could have happened was that I didn't get the job.

Ilikelotsofthinngs · 18/06/2018 22:01

What band of job is it in the NHS? Just curious really how likely it would be that nobody else would apply.
Brain surgeon maybe I guess there are not many of those about.
Wondering as I'm currently looking at admin jobs in the NHS, maybe getting my hopes up that I might not have too much competition.

Babyroobs · 18/06/2018 22:09

I went for a band 6 interview NHS recently and was the only applicant. they put it back out to advert and there were two applicants. I went to interview and the other person didn't even turn up ! I still didn't get it due to not wanting full time. They have re-advertised for a third time now !

BigfluffybearBum · 18/06/2018 22:40

It's a band 6 fairly specialist role. I don't know if my original application would stand? you'd think if it didn't they'd have th3 deceny to tell me

OP posts:
BigfluffybearBum · 18/06/2018 22:41

The 1st advert was only out for a week which I thought was strange

OP posts:
JonSnowsCloak · 19/06/2018 09:11

If it was only out for a week I'd hazard a guess at there being an internal candidate who they knew was keen and fitted the bill, definitely give them a call just to clarify. Normally we would do two weeks to give candidates time to apply over the weekend.

TammySwansonTwo · 19/06/2018 09:18

Someone I know went through this recently with the NHS - the job was relisted online after her interview. Turns out it was an automated thing - she got the job.

BigfluffybearBum · 19/06/2018 22:58

So I phoned HR today. They told me the recruiting manager was off sick so the job hasn't been shortlisted and her deputy didn't know so she has 're advertised by mistake. They've pulled the new advert and will shortlist from the old ad! What a palaver!

edshearansmistress · 19/06/2018 23:11

Likelotsof it's pretty common to advertise a job in the NHS and get zero applications (or applications from completely unsuitable candidates!)

Anon12345ABC · 20/06/2018 09:51

@Ilikelotsofthinngs, sorry but NHS admin will attract more than a handful of applicants. You will definitely have competition.
