Worst presents (lighthearted)

Up until recently, I thought the worst gift my kids had ever received was a (beautifully decorated) recorder.

Until DD received this electric drum set a few weeks ago.

The mum who gifted it isn't exactly my biggest fan (well played!) but our daughters are besties at school, so I can't really moan or make jokes about it IRL.

But it's just so bloody annoying! And noisy! And the kids (esp the 3 year old) love it!

What's the best gift your kids have ever received that you have hated?

My ds had a pink stripy jumper with a heart on it age 2-3 for his 1st birthday. I mean why bother? Obviously no thought went into it.

Same person bought my almost 9 year old son a teddy bear shaped money box.

Luckily the presents inside were quite good, but last Christmas DP did actually use tinfoil to wrap my gifts 😂

But yes to the play doh! Good present in theory but for DS Birthday he got so much of the stuff it was pretty impossible to keep all the doh under control, found bits of dried play doh everywhere for ages.

Woman in my office got a tea towel multipack with one towel missing from a relative for her wedding.

NOthing beats NAn’s fanny bangle.
Nespresso coffee machine; I boycot Nesle and have done for all of our 25 year relationship but DH apparently wasn’t aware of that fact and agreed with lovely and generous PiLs that I’d love it.

@LilMadAgain I'm would be too! Your one tops the list 😂

A set of 3 mini marmalades when I was 13. I was completely bemused
but said thanks.

I honestly feel quite sad at the amount of obviously used, second hand presents that are being given. Do people who receive them feel offended at this? I appreciate people many not have money for a present (I would be happy with nothing) but my opinion is to buy something so obviously used just smacks of CBA and picked the first thing that's vaguely suitable?

FIL got DS (1 at the time) a bubble machine. We were in a small open plan flat with no garden and he set it up in the middle of our living room / kitchen and as it didn't work properly ,we didn't even get bubbles. It just sprayed soapy liquid everywhere, on everything, including DS's face.

Fanny bangle has to win the thread though!

MyFavouritePlace · 20/06/2018 12:28

A Bonsai tree, I was 18 and it was from my then boyfriend.

Ski40 · 20/06/2018 12:44

A huge 1990's book about sewing and knitting😖. I hate both activities and the giver knew. And it reeked of musty loft...

Nefney14 · 20/06/2018 15:46

My nan is the worlds worst gifter 😂
For my 18th birthday she got me an extra small fake leather jacket I am and always have been a size 14 she then made me try it on and was all like 'it's okay you're not supposed to do them up' I couldn't bend my arms!! 😂😂😂😂

I'll never forget the year she bought my 11 year old some seriously sexy thongs. My dad was not impressed! 😂😂

mumofmunchkin · 20/06/2018 15:56

Mil and Fil went on holiday in Feb. When they came back they sent a parcel of presents in the post - a t shirt for each kid, fab, and there was also a quite clearly second hand (it was bobbled) christmas nighty. I couldn't work out if it was Mil's and she'd put it in there by accident, if she'd bought it thinking it was a t shirt for dh, if it was supposed to be for me (there was no present for the other one of us), it was just bizarre.... I never had the guts to ask her about it!

BlooperReel · 20/06/2018 16:07

Rollerskates, not so bad eh? But my DC has only turned 2 a month before. I can only assume the gift giver wanted her dead or maimed.

CoolCarrie · 20/06/2018 16:22

Fanny bangle 😁 this thread needs to go in classics just for that
