Shopping online for a new mattress for Ds1, some recommendations at the foot of tha page "you may also like" - and this was one of them:

luxury mattress

Who would pay this much?? Or am I a cheapskate with my £200 budget? The reviews are hilarious 😂😂

I was about to come on here and say YABU, you spend nearly half your day in bed. But fuck me, that's a lot of money!

We spent £800 last year replacing ours, but I'd double that if I could afford it. But I wouldn't spend more on a mattress than my car cost Shock

Sparklesocks · 17/06/2018 20:49

Omg you could use that money as an actual deposit for the property the mattress would be in!!

TornFromTheInside · 17/06/2018 20:57

Easier and cheaper to sleep on a bed of £20.00 notes

ALemonyPea · 17/06/2018 20:57

Are they made to order do you think, or do JL have them in stock in the back of the shop? I’ll have one to go, I’ll just strap it to the roof of my car.

Op, go to Ikea and get a Hovag mattress. Lovely and comfortable.

Westnorwood · 17/06/2018 21:01

German people all sleep on the floor and they seem healthy.

What? Did you mean Japanese? I don’t think they all do either.

Bibesia · 17/06/2018 21:03

Where do you find the reviews? It says they aren't any on the link I tried.

DorothyBastard · 17/06/2018 21:07

We paid £3300 last year, after much debate (it’s a huge amount of money for us), and I can’t imagine a single other thing I would have rather diverted the money towards. It improves our quality of life immensely and I look forward to getting into bed every night

spontaneousgiventime · 17/06/2018 21:08

My DD is after a new mattress, I'm sure she'll have two Grin

Sebbies · 17/06/2018 21:09

o0o0o I don’t think I’d ever get out of bed again Grin bet it’s comfy

It cost as much as my car, but thinking about it, I spend a lot more time in bed than my car and would keep a mattress longer... might be time to sell the car

Semster · 17/06/2018 21:11

My BIL is a millionaire, and occasionally we get his castoffs. A few years ago he passed us a bed that they didn't need any more.

I have to admit, it's the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on.

PandaPieForTea · 17/06/2018 21:12

I think German people mostly sleep in normal beds. They don’t seem to have double duvets.

We were once ‘upgraded’ to a waterbed in a German hotel. I wouldn’t recommend it.

PandaPieForTea · 17/06/2018 21:15

I chose our mattress at JL by trying them in order of increasing price until I stopped being able to tell the difference between them. Like a cross between Goldilocks and the princess and the pea.

I didn’t get anywhere near £14k. I’m clearly not refined enough.

clary · 17/06/2018 21:17

I can't get the link to work to the reviews but there is a page with them in... they are all jokes tho.

I know you spend more time in bed than in your car, but it's not that simple. The SEAT of your car costs less than your mattress, so that's five.

Re the Germans; when I lived in Germany, they were all terribly keen on sleeping on the floor instead of in bed is all.

OP posts:
clary · 17/06/2018 21:18

fine, not five! I look forward to getting into bed too 😀

UpstartCrow · 17/06/2018 21:19

I'm going to cover the floor with them and you can all come and jump up and down on the bed.

Not really.

TornFromTheInside · 17/06/2018 21:21

I sleep on a simple mattress looking up at the deepest blue night, punctuated by silvery stars with the clouds painted in the perfection of moonlight...

But I guess that's the price you pay for missing roof tiles and a bloody big hole in the ceiling.

MoonsAndJunes · 17/06/2018 21:28

Hastens 'Vividus' 140k +
It's all relative. If you have billions, quite reasonable really Grin

squiglet111 · 17/06/2018 21:32

It would be totally wasted on me as I have a newborn who doesn't sleep through so I would constantly be woken from the bed.

I bought a dunlopillow after reading about it on a tread on here and its glorious and I sleep amazing on it.... For the 2 hours a time I get before lo wakes for next feed! Can't wait until I get a full night on my luxury pillow!

Wouldnt pay that much for a mattress tho. Well if I won the lottery I would! I have a Sealy mattress which is super comfortable so happy with that!

BrightYellowDaffodil · 17/06/2018 21:33

I saw this one (or one similar) in JL when I was looking for a mattress but didn't dare try in case I loved it too much. Hell, that was as much as my house deposit!

(I got a mattress from Dreams for £500 and it is AMAZING so you absolutely don't need to sell a kidney for something decent :) )

KanielOutis · 17/06/2018 21:40

It only comes with a 7 year guarantee. For that price I would expect at least a lifetime guarantee, maybe like a bag for life where they agree to swap it when it wears out or breaks.

roses2 · 17/06/2018 21:46

I bought a Hypnia memory foam mattress on Amazon 6 years ago and I adore it. It's still going strong. It is around £350 these days.

The likes of Simbia and Eve sell customer returned refurbished mattresses on eBay for the same price which are worth considering.

ScrubTheDecks · 17/06/2018 22:09

I bought a £40 down pillow recently and wallow in luxury. That was a massive extravagance for me. I would love a top quality mattress, but I also love sleeping in a tent on a mat.
