Lymph node

Aibu to ask for someone to talk me down?! My daughter who's 2 has had a swollen lymph node for the last 7weeks, she's been referred to see a specialist by our gp. Our gp has said he wasn't worried about it but it's their precautionary measure to send kids to specialist if the gp has a seen a child twice about lymph nodes.
We're due to see the specialist this week and I can't breath with anxiety. I'm so worried it's going to be bad sinister news. My daughter has no other sinister symptoms, she's full of life/energy, gaining weight and no development issues. She has lots of allergies and I have been told there is a link between swollen lymph nodes and allergies.
I'm sorry I just had to get that out! My partner thinks I'm overreacting and he isn't concerned because medical professionals are not concerned. I guess I've spent too long on google and it's killing me now Confused

In my experience, if doctors are at all concerned they refer to specialists fast and don't mince their words. I hope everything is okay and the specialist can give you some answers Flowers

OK breathe.
I have been hysterical for about 4 weeks because my 1 year old has had lymph nodes up for about 8 weeks, 2 above his clavicle which is a bad sign usually, one at base of head and several in his neck. Otherwise he has been healthy, no symptoms. I went to gp, got sent away. I am a hcp so knew this wasn't right, went back for a 2nd opinion and got referred to an oncologist. I was hysterical. Anyway, we got seen within 2 weeks, blood tests, showed he was fighting an infection but nothing worrying. Chest x ray clear. Then repeat bloods were done a few days ago, they were nromal. We had an ultrasound of the nodes which we were told all measured less than 1cm so weren't even classed as enlarged, just felt raised as they've not gone back to normal size after being raised at one point and are now "shotty".
I was worried about Lymphoma, spent hours on Google and ended up off sick from work. The consultant is now saying he's obviously fought something off and now they may just stay like this. She has also said his eczema or cradle cap might be to blame.

I know how you feel, I thought I was dying from anxiety. But the consultant said to me after 8 weeks with lymphoma a child would be symptomatic as they don't have slow growing cancers like adults do.

My son was sent, his was so big I could see it from far away. They did a scan believe it or not, it wasn’t even considered enlarged. I can’t remember if they said it had to be bigger than 2cm or something like that to be considered enlarged and it wasn’t, just looked that way because of the placement of it. It’s still there 2 years later.
My 3yo has a few that I can feel and have been able to since I checked when my son had the scan.
I have about 4 in my neck that I can feel. One is like a kidney bean and been there all my life. It’s never been properly checked but doctors have felt it. I also can feel lots deep in my armpits that are always there.
Most people have some they can feel, especially if slim. I was told they’re only a worry if they grow, and grow, and grow and are sticking out like an orange

I had surgery to have some removed from my groin as they became enlarged but never went down. Never did get to the bottom of it but nothing sinister so please try not to worry too much. IME gps refer extremely quickly when they are worried about something

Thank you all so much for getting back to me. Thanks @Flatearthersphere for explaining what happened with your little one and the process. It's just so overwhelming difficult as soon as the logical part of my brain thinks be calm and rational the other part thinks don't get carried away your kid is dying. I'm not even exaggerating that's how overwhelmed I'm feeling and I hate it. My issue thanks to google is that the limp feels hard. The rational part of me thinks more than 1 doctor has felt it, they're not concerned it hasn't grown or changed shape. And I also have no idea what I'm feeling for, I'm not a medical professional!
Thank you though everyone. You know what it's like the thought of any harm coming to your little one is just unbearable

My dd2 had one come up at about 3. She's 8 now and the shotty bastard is still there.

She was referred to a paediatric consultant after 3 gp visits as a precaution and because she is a tiny dot of a thing and loses weight easily. All fine.

In fact, is your child skinny? Dd2 is (and always had been) around 12th centile for weight so pretty small and the consultant said that makes lumps and bumps more visible as there is less flesh to feel through.

KneesupGaston · 17/06/2018 18:41

I thought it was normal for most kids to have a few little peas that won't go down somewhere on their body!

flumpybear · 17/06/2018 20:59

Precautionary please
Don't worry, just get your little one seen by a specialist to alleviate your fears ... in my experience having children causes health anxiety! Thanks

sprinklesunday · 22/06/2018 19:39

Hey I just wanted to let you know that my daughter saw the specialist today and she had no concerns! She took some bloods just to be on the safe side and she said she's expects them to come back all fine! Thank you all so much for your supportive messages!

My son had one for months on end . GP said most kids have them . Believe me if there was anything seriously wrong with your child they would have other symptoms. Try not to worry!

Winegal · 22/06/2018 19:53

When I was about 12 I have massively swollen lymph nodes under my arm pits, turned out I had a virus that my body was still fighting and nothing sinister at all. Sending you a handhold Thanks

Winegal · 22/06/2018 19:53

*i had

Lymphy · 22/06/2018 20:20

I've had lymphoma don't worry it's quite rare and tends to effect more from the age of fifteen onwards, kids immune systems are constantly developing and so not uncommon to have nodes pop up and down, my ds got a cat scratch and he a a biggie pop up, obviously it's sensible to get any lump checked but try not to worry about it, by the time the lumps appear you'd likely have symptoms, I was stage 4 at diagnosis when lumps appeared and they were honestly tennis ball size overnight! Xx

FYI we had the all clear too OP and the oncologist was so reassuring, scary few weeks though.
