To think biology matters?

crunchymint · 17/06/2018 15:14

Our biology matters. Whether we bleed every month, can get pregnant, if we are not as strong as most men, go through menopause, etc. All these things affect our lives in real ways.
So AIBU to think biology matters?

Of course it plays a part but so does strength of character. In a crisis many women cope better than men.

This
Is
Totally
New
Information

Book deals are surely on their way

PurpleDaisies · 17/06/2018 15:17

It depends on what you mean by “matters”. Matters when? Context is important.

crunchymint · 17/06/2018 15:18

Grin Yes you are probably right that someone will write a book about this and pretend it is a new revelation.

crunchymint · 17/06/2018 15:20

Purple Yes context is important. I am not arguing that bleeding every month or getting pregnant or going through the menopause, means women can not get paid work for example. Anti feminists use these biological realities to try and keep women in the home.

Dont forget smaller feet to keep women in the kitchen

Clairetree1 · 17/06/2018 15:22

women's lives are so different from men's.

PurpleDaisies · 17/06/2018 15:22

Anti feminists use these biological realities to try and keep women in the home.

Do they? I’ve never heard anyone argue thar women shouldn’t work due to periods/menopause.

Aridane · 17/06/2018 15:25

Eh?

crunchymint · 17/06/2018 15:26

Purple Before it was common for women to work outside the home, those arguments were used. And I am talking in my mum's lifetime. I appreciate younger women have probably not heard them.

OP posts:
SerenDippitty · 17/06/2018 15:28

I’ve heard it said that women are unsuitable for certain jobs because they are at the mercy of their hormones.

Metoodear · 17/06/2018 15:56

Clearly not or we wouldn’t be forced to pretend man can be women would we now

Blessed be the fruit and all that
This is the new reality

And the Lib Dem’s wouldn’t be trying to help Ian Huntley move to a women’s prison even though he is and never can be a women

Metoodear · 17/06/2018 15:57

Also I am totally a slave to my hormone I am on at the moment and am very tearful and a bit sore

Mumminmum · 17/06/2018 16:01

If a man thinks a woman should be kept in the kitchen, it means he doesn't know what to do with her in a bedroom. Wink

crunchymint · 17/06/2018 16:46

Mumm Have you never heard the saying that what some men want is a slave in the kitchen and a whore in the bedroom.

SmileEachDay · 17/06/2018 16:51

Yes, biology matters, crunchy.

Female biology has been the source of our oppression for centuries. Now, it is being cast aside by a few privilidged men - men who trample on both women and dysphoric people alike.

Funnily enough, although the biology is being cast aside, these men want to hang on to the oppression bit 🤔

BackforGood · 17/06/2018 17:13
Confused
Sciurus83 · 17/06/2018 17:36
Hmm
crunchymint · 17/06/2018 17:38

Why the face backforgood?

BackforGood · 17/06/2018 19:07

I am clearly confused, as none of this thread makes sense to me.

What on earth is meant by 'AIBU to think biology matters?'

It is a subject. An area of science. Of course it is important, but that doesn't seem to be what your thread is about.

BellaJessica · 17/06/2018 19:12

I was in hospital recently with heart issues and was told womens heart issues present completely differently to mens. That was quiet interesting.

Mercurial123 · 17/06/2018 21:36

I have to say I'm confused by your original post as well.
