To hate 'Mummy Merch'

Am I the only one who cringes with all this mummy merch flying about? Mum t shirts and mummy milestone cards etc. I just do not understand it. Am I weird? I feel like everyone around me is a 'proud Mummy' and it makes me wanna vom.

I've got 3 daughters all ivf and I love them so much but don't feel as though I need to walk round with a t-shirt saying mummy on it or taking pics with a card saying 'mumwin' Envy.

Anything like 'full time mummy' on Facebook makes me want to come too

Well, with that and snapping and farting, MN is a busy place right now.

There's a lady that comes to my dc's swimming every week wearing a jumper that says 'parenting the shit out of life'. Her kids are young so it doesn't mean anything to them but my older dc can read it, which is obviously lovely to explain. Hmm

Jesus Christ 😔

Idontevencareanymore · 17/06/2018 16:10

I'm pretty meh about it all. Or too tight to spend out the £££ on it all 😂

I do love a good slogan tee though. My current Favourite states be your own beautiful I like that.

EatRepeatEatRepeat · 17/06/2018 16:11

I have a mum Tshirt with a slogan on which was a gift and I actually quite like it. It’s not too slushy and i don’t wear it often but I really wouldn’t care what people thought of me wearing it!
I normally dislike slogan stuff for me and dc and wouldn’t have bought it myself.

cjferg · 17/06/2018 16:21

they’re like those cards ‘to my son on his birthday’, ‘to a special aunt this Christmas’, ‘to my recently divorced window cleaner on his hazard perception test’.

We recieved a christmas card from husband's aunt and uncle which was 'to nephew and wife.' Where do you even buy that?

NerrSnerr · 17/06/2018 16:22

I don't see a problem with them. Life would be dull if we all wore the same Breton tops or school run dresses.

AmyLou14 · 17/06/2018 16:26

I hate also, was at a baby show last week and the amount of pregnant women in stupid T-shirts that say things like “hand off the bump” ect it looks stupid! No one wants to touch you, in fact I’m considering getting a wide load sticker for my arse, that would be more beneficial and useful! All this jumpers and tshirts with crappy slogans on them, it’s like justification for being massive, not brushing your hair ect. (All of which I’m guilty of)

*Don't buy the clothing (unless you both need it and love it, of course) and if the consequent absence of the donation to the worthwhile charities from the companies concerned bothers you, just give the money you would otherwise have spent on the purchase directly to the charity. Cut out the middle man, don't consume the resources involved in making the T shirt, don't add to landfill when you eventually dump the item.

This exactly. The fact that they donate to charity for each purchase is just a marketing ploy to draw in the airheads who buy them.

And yes, I also dislike slogans in general on clothing. "Brains from daddy, looks from mummy" was one jaw dropper I once saw at a baby group.

Airheads? People seem really over invested in what others wear. I quite like the Selfish Mother stuff but I'm too tight so will only get a jumper if one turns up in the charity shop

JassyRadlett · 17/06/2018 17:13

YANBU, OP, only in that ‘merch’ is a dreadful, cringeworthy term.

HulaMelody · 17/06/2018 17:17

I can’t stand them. Although I remember reading about an instamum who wore the MOTHER jumper when her son was stillborn to take a stand against people who weren’t recognising her loss or her son and thought fair play.

I remember receiving a ‘hands off the bump!’ T shirt when pg. wore it to bed but no way would I wear it outdoors!! Shame as it was sooo comfy.

Shampooeeee · 17/06/2018 18:29

I used to like Selfish Mother tops but they seem to have been co-opted by basic bitches so I’m a bit embarrassed to wear them now.
