To think I wasn’t nasty?

LuxeLisbon · 17/06/2018 12:19

I’m in a diet support group (think slimming world but not etc) and a woman posted about how amazing the 30 day squat challenge was.

I disagreed with her because I think those types of challenges are silly to promote for many reasons.

She then went psycho on me, saying I was negative, I shouldn’t ever post on her posts ever again, I’m a witch etc

That was yesterday and now she’s created another post in the group again calling me childish names. This woman is almost twice my age Confused

I think just because I didn’t comment “that’s fantastic hun!” and gave an educated response then I wasn’t being nasty or negative?

Yes, you were mean - but she is overreacting

Nicknacky · 17/06/2018 13:08

What did you actually say?

LadyPeacock · 17/06/2018 13:16

If OP was talking about somebody in a baby group who was suggesting it would be lovely for everyone to give 4 month olds cake PP would all agree that it should be challenged.

OP feels the woman is giving poor advice to others, not just commenting on what she herself is doing.

Nicknacky · 17/06/2018 13:18

I don't think you can compare it to giving a baby cake.

The woman is just sharing a fitness fad.

RebornSlippy · 17/06/2018 13:20

I'd imagine it was more the way you said it, rather than what you meant. You've been asked a couple of times now, OP. What exactly did you say?

LuxeLisbon · 17/06/2018 13:30

She is posting on an exercise/diet forum, that's what you do, share your positives.

It’s not an exercise forum in the slightest. In fact exercise isn’t really encouraged because you are eating little calories

Get rid of your opinion that us older Women need unasked for advice.

Can you please tell me where I said older people can’t or shouldn’t exercise. I was referring to age in how she overreacted not on her ability to do anything.

OP posts:
LuxeLisbon · 17/06/2018 13:32

And I don’t remember exactly what I said as she deleted the post.

I think I just said that the squat challenges is ineffective as you would need to be adding weights and do it in conjunction with other exercises to achieve weight loss and increase muscle mass.

OP posts:
Nicknacky · 17/06/2018 13:34

Honestly I wouldn't have replied saying that unless she had specifically asked opinions.

Yes she has over reacted but she is probably embarrassed that her efforts to improve herself were public ally shot down.

LuxeLisbon · 17/06/2018 13:41

Yeah I see your point. Wasn’t my intention though. I would apologise but she’s still going on so....

OP posts:
FlyingElbows · 17/06/2018 13:44

You weren't nasty but your comment was unnecessary. If you're in one of those groups you know very well that people who join them can be very vulnerable and are trying to make positive change to their lives. No, they won't be super clued up exercise professional level changes but they're something and that's better than crying into a plate of profiteroles to salve your emotional pain. Think before you comment, op and remember that you don't have to chip in to everything people post.

SemperIdem · 17/06/2018 13:46

Confused she overreacted. I don’t think wha you said was unpleasant, just factual.

TheStoic · 17/06/2018 13:47

Are you an exercise physiologist?

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 17/06/2018 13:48

Sorry, Birds, I wasn't that saying that in a derogatory way, it was meant as a descriptor of her "look what I achieved!" post. Should have been clearer.

onanothertrain · 17/06/2018 13:50

I did the 30 day abs challenge, I didn't lose any weight but did tone up in that area. Surely if you can't do vigorous exercise due to low calorie intake these types of things are ideal.

Lizzie48 · 17/06/2018 14:41

I don't know why the OP is being given such a hard time tbh. What she posted was ill advised but she wasn't meaning to be unkind from what I can tell. A simple expression of annoyance and an apology should have put an end to the matter.

The other lady does appear to be a drama queen. Hmm

OliviaStabler · 17/06/2018 14:50

I'll be honest, I'd have been pissed off at you too. Certainly wouldn't do what she is doing now but I really don't like that sort of negative posting, it's like you are raining on her parade.

If she'd asked for opinions on the squat challenge then fair enough. But it sounds like she is feeling positive about it and wants to share her success and you come along and stamp all over her post. No need for that.

I once had a friend who would do this. I'd share a song on fb I loved and she'd post 'Never liked her voice, she sounds like a banshee' My view was, if you don't like it, just don't comment.

DailyMailReadersAreThick · 17/06/2018 15:14

I bet the other woman's version of events would be rather different.

It's telling that you "can't remember" how you worded the post that caused so much upset...

LuxeLisbon · 17/06/2018 15:18

No I can’t remember word for word what I put. I said the gist of exactly what I remember. Why would it be in my interest to lie? I’d say the majority on here have said aibu so I’ve hardly made it out to go my way

OP posts:
Claricestarling1 · 17/06/2018 15:24

Why do some people always have to one up everyone? Ooh you suggested an exercise that might be beneficial..nope I’m going to swoop in and make this all about meeeee and my opinions!!! Insufferable.

Whocansay · 17/06/2018 15:39

Something helped her and she thought she'd share to help others. You didn't agree, but really you should have kept it to yourself. Unless your wording was more strong than you have suggested, she sounds like she's overreacted hugely. I would apologise and tell her that no offence was meant.

(I do think it's very weird that exercise isn't encouraged on your diet though. Surely that would make your efforts more effective?)

MarthasGinYard · 17/06/2018 15:43

'It’s not an exercise forum in the slightest. In fact exercise isn’t really encouraged'

So no need to add anything really then.

Tangled59 · 17/06/2018 15:46

You sound jealous

LuxeLisbon · 17/06/2018 16:00

Jealous of what exactly?

OP posts:
TaytoAllDay · 18/06/2018 10:34

You are right, those 30 day challenges don't achieve miracle bodies
