I want a mirrored front microwave and so looked on Shpock before buying new. I saw one on there that was a combination microwave with grill and oven for £30 advertised in 'great condition'. I googled it's model number and saw it was £100 new.
I offered the seller the asking price and drove 20 miles to collect. The sellers lived in a property that car couldn't get too (had to walk a walkway), so I waited in car with kids whilst my husband found the house. He actually returned with the microwave which I hadn't expected him too (just thought he was locating the house for me). he hadn't checked it over he just bought it! When I checked it, the front was damaged as though a bleach spray (or something) had left lots of tiny dots on about one quarter of the glass front. On a mirrored microwave this was not good.
I awkwardly returned to the house and they tried to 'scrub' it away but they couldn't as it was damage not dirt. Thankfully they gave us our money back but husband said to me "I didn't say it was brand new"!
I told him I know that but had agreed the sale based on its pictures which did not show the damage and showed him how the reflections in his pictures had hidden the damage (I didn't suggest this had been intentional). Their kitchen was quite dark so they may have not noticed the date in the shadows but it couldn't be missed in the light.
He just reviewed me and said 'She expected it to look new and unused'. I've now reviewed saying I drove 20 miles to collect based on pictures but there was damage not shown and it was not in 'great condition' as described and did mention the refund to their credit after husband collected it.
AIBU to think £30 for a £100-when-new microwave is a rip off if not in almost perfect condition & that I was not BU to expect it to be damage free as none was shown and it was described as in 'great condition'???
