To think these Shpock sellers are in the wrong!?

I want a mirrored front microwave and so looked on Shpock before buying new. I saw one on there that was a combination microwave with grill and oven for £30 advertised in 'great condition'. I googled it's model number and saw it was £100 new.

I offered the seller the asking price and drove 20 miles to collect. The sellers lived in a property that car couldn't get too (had to walk a walkway), so I waited in car with kids whilst my husband found the house. He actually returned with the microwave which I hadn't expected him too (just thought he was locating the house for me). he hadn't checked it over he just bought it! When I checked it, the front was damaged as though a bleach spray (or something) had left lots of tiny dots on about one quarter of the glass front. On a mirrored microwave this was not good.

I awkwardly returned to the house and they tried to 'scrub' it away but they couldn't as it was damage not dirt. Thankfully they gave us our money back but husband said to me "I didn't say it was brand new"!

I told him I know that but had agreed the sale based on its pictures which did not show the damage and showed him how the reflections in his pictures had hidden the damage (I didn't suggest this had been intentional). Their kitchen was quite dark so they may have not noticed the date in the shadows but it couldn't be missed in the light.

He just reviewed me and said 'She expected it to look new and unused'. I've now reviewed saying I drove 20 miles to collect based on pictures but there was damage not shown and it was not in 'great condition' as described and did mention the refund to their credit after husband collected it.

AIBU to think £30 for a £100-when-new microwave is a rip off if not in almost perfect condition & that I was not BU to expect it to be damage free as none was shown and it was described as in 'great condition'???

So 70% off brand new price and a bit of cosmetic damage is a rip off?

Notso · 17/06/2018 12:11

I think he should have listed any cosmetic damage but I don't think £30 is a rip off and I'd still say it was in good used condition from what you've listed.
If you want perfect condition you shouldn't buy used items.

StepBackNow · 17/06/2018 12:11

YWVU. £30? Bargain.

TheQueef · 17/06/2018 12:13

£30 is discounted enough for cosmetic damage.

MsHopey · 17/06/2018 12:16

Definitely should have mentioned it in the advert. I like a bargain, but if it still microwaved and grilled your food for £30 I'd be quite happy.

MsHopey · 17/06/2018 12:19

I'd be more upset that I'd drove a total of 40 miles with DH and DC then I would about a shpock review.
Surely once you factor in the drive a new one would have been easier.

Star1234567890 · 17/06/2018 12:23

I'm not upset at the review but more taken aback that he's saying I expected it to look 'unused and new' just because I didn't want it due to the damage. I didn't expect perfection but a quarter of the glass visibly damaged completely ruining its sleek appearance were not shown or declared. I wouldn't have even considered it if it was.

Just to add, if all I wanted was a microwave for the sake of a microwave, I can pick them up much cheaper second hand and even for around £40 new. I don't need a new microwave just want to upgrade from the tatty one I have. I will probably just buy a new one but always like to try and save money and have successfully bought secondhand goods in the past that are as good as the off the shelf condition.

Hmm it wouldn’t bother me that much it’s only cosmetic although it should have been mentioned.

I on the other hand went to collect an item that had been advertised as excellent condition from a pet and smoke free home. Now the pets I’m not bothered about as long as it doesn’t stink of dog or have hair all over it but the lady answered the door a dog came with her and she had a fag in her mouth! Perhaps she forgot what she wrote on the advert! I refused to buy it and left

Butterflykissess · 17/06/2018 12:37

people always lie about the pet thing. my sister says it but has a cat.

anyway back to the op, this is why i ask if abythings wrong with it or any damage before i buy anything.

TerfsUp · 17/06/2018 12:40

You were being VU. You got a huge discount but are whingeing. If you want something that looks new, but new.

19lottie82 · 17/06/2018 12:43

Your lucky they even refunded you. Your husband should have inspected it. I would have told you to do one!
