To expect a hello

Was home before dh this evening and went to bed with a book. Just went downstairs to get a drink of water and was surprised to see dh in the lounge as I hadn't heard him come in. He knew I was home.
I was surprised he hadn't called even a hello up the stairs and said so. His answer of "why should I say hello?" surprised me even more.
Would you find that a bit off?

YANBU unless he thought you were sleeping or doing something which meant you couldn't be disturbed it would be normal to at least say "hi, I'm home".

Gruffalina72 · 16/06/2018 21:46

First time he's done this?

ittakes2 · 16/06/2018 21:46

If you went to bed with a book he maybe thought you were asleep and calling out hello might wake you up?

SoyDora · 16/06/2018 21:48

DH wouldn’t want to disturb me in case I was asleep. Although he’d probably text me from downstairs to see if I was awake!

iamyourequal · 16/06/2018 21:49

Are you I’m another country/ time zone OP? I’d find it peculiar to go to bed this early on a Saturday night, perhaps he thought you were deliberately avoiding him.

eightfacesofthemoon · 16/06/2018 21:49

Is this a real problem? I mean seriously.
I would think you were asleep

Fruitcorner123 · 16/06/2018 21:51

what? He probably thought you were asleep. Is there background or is this all he's done wrong?

Needsupporttoday · 16/06/2018 21:52

Fair enough - maybe he thought I was asleep but I just found it rather dismissive as "why should I say hello" is all he said and not "I thought you were asleep." I really will go to sleep now. It has been an exhausting day

Clearly there is something more than this isolated incident because most people wouldn’t even question their partner over a hello in the evening when one is upstairs.

busybarbara · 16/06/2018 21:57

Erm, you didn't say hello to him either! Whoever is in a house greets people coming in first, not the other way around.

spugymonster · 16/06/2018 22:12

Winds me up too if this happens! I think it's rude.
