To complain about this toy box

We bought a white toy chest from a major retailer about 6 months ago. We also have an inflatable cow bouncer. I put the cow on top of the toy chest and left it there for a week. Today I took it off and found the paint on the lid has seemed to have stuck to the cow's feet. The paint where the cow was standing feels soft and came off my hands - it's ok else where on the lid. It's been a warm week, but not that warm indoors, certainly our 1yo has been fine. After 6 months am I entitled to complain to the store and have it returned? I'm sure I've been perfectly reasonable stacking toys on top of it! The inflatable is probably a kilo or so. I'm just really upset that paint can come off so easily on a piece of children's furniture.

Pictures of one of the imprints on the chest lid and the underside of the inflatable cow.

Just to add the bottom of the box is also bent/broken from the weight of the toys inside (loosely packed). I was disappointed but I hadn't planned to complain about that.

It looks like the fault was the cow's rather than the box.

Yes you would be. The air in the cow will have helped heat it up. That's why it's warm underneath that part. The plastic will have softened against the top (painted?) and therefore left a mark.

Completely unsurprising to me.

I put a birthing ball against my freshly painted living room wall, the paint stuck to it and had to scrape it off with a chisel 😂

Ok, thanks for the explanation, it wouldn't have occurred to me to be a problem at room temperature. It doesn't seem safe to use it now around my 1yo who loves pulling stuff off the top of the box. I feel so bad, not just about the money, but we loved it and it was painful for my DH to assemble and he'll be pretty upset.

And the cow wasn't cheap either. How do I get the paint off?

Paint stripper?

Sunrise888 · 15/06/2018 15:42

Will paint stripper damage the rubber inflatable though?

I might ask the store (it's a national store) if it would be possible to supply a new lid.
