To Not Taje Neighbours Pardels in

Because I’m feeling a bit guilty about this now....

I’ve just refused to take in parcels for next door. The delivery driver had 5 very large parcels, and the only place I could have fitted them in my house was in a pile in the middle of the living room. So because I don’t want a box mountain in my living room, I refused to take them.

The delivery driver said he wasn’t taking them back, neighbours knew they were coming as they’d booked delivery for today, so he’s left them in the neighbours back garden.

And now it’s started drizzling.

WIBU to not take the parcels in?

I have enough room so would have taken them. But in your situ, no, that’s ridiculous

Dementedswan · 15/06/2018 12:20

I often take in parcels for neighbour but there is no way I'd have my living room cluttered with big boxes. YANBU! They knew they were getting delivered today so tough luck, they should have waited in.

LighthouseSouth · 15/06/2018 12:22

YANBU

BottleOfJameson · 15/06/2018 12:22

YANBU. Neighbours and I always take in parcels without thinking but if tI was expecting something huge I'd make sure I was going to be in or at least ask the neighbour in advance to make sure they were OK.

Come to think of it a neighbour once did take a fairly big parcel (it was a double duvet and mattress protector) for me and I was really embarrassed and apologised profusely. I had been waiting in all day but had to get DS from school and obviously it came it that half hour.

HirplesWithHaggis · 15/06/2018 12:23

If you feel really, really guilty, is there anything stopping you from taking the parcels in now? Apart from the obvious box mountain issue?

I'm not unsympathetic to your dilemma, but I would take them in. Unless your neighbours are total shits... presumably they'll be home soon, since they booked the delivery... ach, I have splinters in my arse...

I’m feeling less guilty now that DH has reminded me that the next door neighbours took 2 days to collect their parcel the last time we took one in for them.

guide for the entitled - you get stuff delivered to work or you use the parcel lockers that even my small town has. or you buy from real shops rather than paying extra on amazon.

if all else fails, you ask the neighbour if they would be kind enough to take in a delivery on such and such a date before booking.

do none of these and serve you right if your parcel gets wet.

PanPanPanPing · 15/06/2018 17:11

YANBU.

One small parcel - fine. Five large parcels - not fine.

DP once took delivery of a huge box for a neighbour. When I got home I could barely get past it because it nearly blocked the hall. So I Googled from the info on the labels stuck on the outside of the box. It was a massive wingback chair!!!

We do, however, take in small parcels for many of our neighbours quite happily!!

UserX · 15/06/2018 17:45

My old neighbour used to specify packages to be left at mine. Small parcels I have no problem with but that is just barefaced cheek. Some of the highlights included: all their wedding presents at once, a set of motorcycle tires (no idea why I said yes to those, massive and stinky) and a £3000 bike which I refused as I could not be responsible for. Never a thank you either @ was very arsey over the bike.

4GreenApples · 15/06/2018 17:49

Shock Shock A £3000 bike!!!!!

You must look like a very careful and trustworthy neighbour UserX Wink

yanbu i dont tKe parcels in anymore

Abouttoblow · 15/06/2018 18:42

If they knew the delivery was happening today they should have been there.

busybarbara · 15/06/2018 19:04

You or they should get a porch

expatinscotland · 15/06/2018 19:06

YANBU. There's a range of options now. Even our small town also has lockers. I take them in if they are small and we have space, but if it all had to be piled into my living room, nope.

jgjgjgjgjg · 15/06/2018 19:06

If you can get in to their garden put a plastic sheet over the boxes whilst it's raining
