Can someone please recommend VLCD meal replacement?

Hi, sorry I know this isn't really the right place.

I feel like shit at the moment. I'm very overweight, marriage has fallen apart and whilst I don't ever intend on finding anyone else, I want to look better.

It feels like it's a make or break situation. I've lost 3lb.

I'm at the gym every day doing a couple of hours of light exercise owing to my general unhealthiness and size.

I wanted to find something like a VLCD to follow to get the first few stone off, and a bit of a spring in my step.

I have tried Cambridge diet, which I didn't like. I couldn't stand the taste. I tried the slimming shakes in the tins- why can't I remember their name?

I don't intend on this being how I lose all of my weight, but I want something quick to help me feel a bit better quite quickly, then rely more on something that's more like normal eating- healthy home made meals.

Please recommend anything that doesn't taste rank and will work.

Thank you x

My top recommendation would be the I week blood sugar diet, 800 calories of real food.

If you want to go the sachet route look at Slim and Save or Exante.

If you have the willpower for those, you can do bootcamp or bsd or similar?

FrogFairy · 14/06/2018 22:13

8 week sorry

I love slimfast, especially the café latte flavour.

BoiledFrog · 14/06/2018 22:21

I did slim and save off and on and lost a stone, I didn't keep up with it, but it did seem to reset my appetite somewhat.

I'm still quite fat, but still a good couple of stones lighter than when I started it. The bars and shakes and stuff were all fairly palatable afair.

Exante tastes great.

The 8 week blood sugar diet is fantastic

I have done Lighter Life and Slim & Save. I hated the sachets for S&S but liked the LL ones.

The LL support programme is excellent but it's the most expensive and a big commitment.

beltanewalk · 14/06/2018 22:35

Tried most of them and for me Slim and Save beats the rest hands down.

Another fan if the 8 week blood sugar level diet. Doing 800 cals of actual food means that you get used to the changes on your plate.

Please don’t do it. VLCD are bad for you physically and mentally and do not work in the long run. They also can give you more health problems with awful skin, baldness and gallstones.
I am saying this as someone who has tried them all and was left with a kidney problem after one period of six weeks!!
Nourish your body and eat well. You are kickstarting so will loose weight as long as you are having a calorie deficit and you will feel better. VLCD won’t achieve this!!
After years of yo yo dieting and starving myself and making myself ill as above I went on a plant based diet and worked in my relationship with food.
I’ve lost 15 stone in under 2 years!
In the 9 years I messed around with diets including VLCD I gained nine stone!
Good luck. But honestly it is not just the weight loss that will help. Putting the right food into your body will too xxxx

Don't do hours in the gym doing light exercise. Do short intense bursts like Fast Exercise. As hard as you can bear but for a very short period. And as others have said, the 8 week blood sugar diet. Real food but in small quantities. I bet your view of a normal portion size is right off kilter. Mine certainly is/was.

Low carb also works well but you need to be strict. Loads of satisfying food but if you think you can sneak in a sugary something it will not work.

Good luck

The best diet I did (before surgery to shrink my liver) but is also listed as a short term diet on the NHS website is the milk diet. 4 pints of semi skimmed milk a day, sugar free jelly and a low fat soup like weight watchers a day. Did it for 4 weeks and lost a stone and a bit. A couple days of coming off the sugar but after that felt fine and not hungry.
You can also have sugar free drinks and tea/coffee with the milk from the above.
