To hate pics of "working" mum with baby?

why are there so many articles about working mums illustrated by a woman with a baby on her lap and a computer in front of her?

working is working, not playing with your DC. And now it's popped up on the side bar for MN. Poor.

I don't think it's a big deal, OP.

LionAllMessy · 14/06/2018 20:43

It's meant to be light-hearted and illustrative, rather than literal. Obviously.

tempester28 · 14/06/2018 20:43

I think it might not be too far from the truth for some self employed people or those trying to start businesses at home that fit around childcare.

LighthouseSouth · 14/06/2018 20:44

this is a more accurate image than I thought! Glad I posted.

I found it as crazy as women laughing alone with salad, but I was U!

I had to say to someone on the phone today 'excuse me while I just fish some crayon out of my sons mouth' Whilst also on the laptop. Good job I'm self-employed 🤣

AssassinatedBeauty · 14/06/2018 20:45

"Are working mums just lazy?" - what? That's not a serious blog post, is it?

Stinkywink · 14/06/2018 20:46

I don't know. I earn more than my DP and work longer hours. He does more childcare than me. It's stereotypes isn't it?

LionAllMessy · 14/06/2018 20:48

I have dual screens so sometimes I can get about half an hour of work done if I sit my toddler on my lap, stick youtube on one screen, and work on the other.

LighthouseSouth · 14/06/2018 20:50

@AssassinatedBeauty

I don't know, I refuse to click on it!

I think a more realistic picture would mum on the phone frantically signing to the child to be quiet and go and do something or a child sat glued to a screen.

Spudlet · 14/06/2018 20:56

I believe some z-list 'celebrity' made this claim on some daytime tv show or another. Hoping to follow in the footsteps of Katie Hopkins, no doubt. All rather yawnsome, really.

isthistoonosy · 14/06/2018 20:57

I remember asking my client (on the phone) to wait a min while I switch sides, as my baby was breastfeeding and he was kind of in the way for me to type one handed. They were a little - er OK! - but after a min or two we just carried on as normal.

And had to ask another client to wait as I needed to answer the land line and let my OH know I was in labour so he could come home and drive me to hospital.

So it could be a worse image!

gillybeanz · 14/06/2018 21:06

YANBU, but I'm sorry, many bring it on themselves.
I've lost count of the time a woman has been advised on here for her or her dh to work from home when they have childcare issues.
Like they can do both successfully.

FaFoutis · 14/06/2018 21:09

I did. The picture represents the way I worked for many years. You can do both successfully.

daisypond · 14/06/2018 21:15

Most companies won't allow you to bring your baby to work and work like that, though, do they? It's an image that maybe can only apply to those who work for themselves or can organise their own workflow to suit themselves, so they can maybe work in the evening instead.

FaFoutis · 14/06/2018 21:29

People who work from home.
