Woke up at 6 this morning to awful period pains. Have taken paracetamol and ibuprofen but its not touched it. I am having to sit hunched up and not eaten anything. Keep having to sip drinks as feeling nauseous.

However I am off for 2 days after today although I have a 5 hour journey to do tonight (I'm only a passenger though) so loads of work to do in the meantime. And a meeting this afternoon that I need to go to so that a doc can be signed off by manager (he's not free before then and it has to be submitted by tomorrow).

So I don't know what to do . I do feel really shitty and worried I will throw up. So WWYD?

I think only you can decide. Ordinarily I’d say you should leave but you say you absolutely have to attend this meeting. How bad is it if you don’t go?

Ellendegeneres · 14/06/2018 12:07

Go home!!

MyOtherUsernameisaPun · 14/06/2018 12:07

Can someone else cover the meeting this pm? If so I would explain to your manager and try to get away after doing anything really essential that can't wait.

More generally it sounds like you need more help with your period pain as you're obviously suffering terribly! It's a really horrendous thing for some women but lots can be done to help. I would speak to your GP about it and get better painkillers or maybe go on the pill?

Hope you feel better soon.

AveAtqueVale · 14/06/2018 12:08

Can nobody else take the doc to the meeting for you and submit it? Personally I’d leave, especially if you think you might be sick.

SecretSantaaaaaa · 14/06/2018 12:08

I personally would plough through. Sounds like you are needed. You have 2 days to rest

SecretSantaaaaaa · 14/06/2018 12:10

In fact I was in your position on Monday, hunched over desk. I found that chamomile tea really helped. Although it is unlikely you have this to hand! Do tell your manager you aren't feeling very well though.

PeterPiperPickedSeaShells · 14/06/2018 12:10

It would be cheeky to go home now and yet be well enough to do a journey & go away for 2 days

user139328237 · 14/06/2018 12:13

If the journey is for personal rather than work reasons and you are planning on still making it you really have to stay at work

Feelingreallycrappy · 14/06/2018 12:23

I can't avoid the journey. I'd rather not but there's nothing I can do to get out of it. It certainly won't be much fun if I'm feeling like this the whole weekend.

The pill and injection didn't make much difference to the pain although it is only this bad a couple of times a year. Apart from that I can generally manage with otc painkillers.

Np one else to do meeting. But as it is I'm struggling to work as the pain is making it difficult to concentrate.

Only you can make that call OP.

Feelingreallycrappy · 14/06/2018 12:31

I don't think i can do another 3 or 4 hours in this much pain. If I go home I will be able to sleep for a bit and hopefully feel better later.

You need better painkillers-get some codeine for the next time. Period pains are awful.

Feelingreallycrappy · 14/06/2018 13:07

Codeine makes me sick and completely knocks me out (I have some for another issue). It does help with pain but I couldn't take it at work.

Hoping I can move meeting forward a bit and trying to find someone to cover if not although I'm not pinning my hopes on that.

You need to see the gp, there are other types of medication that can help the pain, it's not limited to the pill/injection and painkillers. That said, NSAIDs (like ibuprofen) are better for period pain than paracetamol/codeine.

I take tranexamic acid which helps with the pain and heavy bleeding that I get.

You don't have to put up with this level of pain even if it's not every month that you get it.

FASH84 · 14/06/2018 19:23

Feminax is your friend OP the one you can only get over the counter at the pharmacy. You don't need a prescription just explain what you've said on here about other painkillers not helping. It contains an anti-spasmodic. It was the only thing that helped me. If yours is this bad every month you might be able to get a bigger pack on prescription.
