Ebay...wanting refund

Gates · 14/06/2018 07:51

Hi. Just a quick issue, sold on ebay for years and this is first time this has happened. I posted 6 items back in the start of May. One buyer is claiming not to have recieved her item, everyone else has.

Think shes trying it on, as didnt message me until a couple of weeks ago, I sent a sincere apology and said i will dig out the post office receipt. Not heard anything off her until a few days with just "no refund???"

I messaged back and agreed to a refund on friday once I had some more funds in my pay pal. Ive had no response from her at all

Just find her rude, I know when ive had issues Ive kept in contact with seller and give them the benefit of the doubt, I know most people would be a little bit more keen on getting the money back aswell not leave it nearly 2 weeks for a reply.

Waiting see if she messages Friday, I know its best to pay her but whys she not took out an ebay report?

Anyone else had issues like this?

Did you sent it to be signed for, if so, you can get a copy of the signature from the post office

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 14/06/2018 07:58

I had a few problems like this. Now I send everything signed for so there can be no argument about non-receipt.

RestingBitchFaced · 14/06/2018 07:59

Can you try and track it from the receipt first?

KingPrawnOkay · 14/06/2018 07:59

Some people are just selfish and try their luck, and that’s what it sounds like she’s doing by waiting so long. That said, it could be genuine, and you can’t hold off her refund just because you have no funds in your PayPal as it’s her money. It’s unrealistic but you shouldn’t have spent it until you knew the matter was over - although I do it all the time, plus you weren’t to know she’d come back months later! You’ll need to transfer it and do it today, but get her to request a refund through eBay so it’s all tracked properly. Unfortunately eBay always side with the buyer, so I’ve had a couple of issues like this in the past where someone claimed their item was broken and it was clear they’d dropped it etc.

TheUnknowner · 14/06/2018 08:01

Was it tracked? If not they can easily force a refund.
A post office receipt doesn't qualify you need proof of delivery not postage

Bellends · 14/06/2018 08:07

What about the tracking on post office number that's on your receipt?

Can you prove it got there? It does sound like it got there to me....id be much more tenacious at getting my money back if it were me and I really hadn't got it!
If not re the tracking, it's bloody annoying but I'd wait till her next communication and then refund. Or if you are balsy, I'd leave it and see if she opens a dispute. She might not. She could leave feedback though or update / add more feedback in the first few weeks, but that too might be worth the risk as one negative in a sea of positives is not really a prob.

Can you tell I've had it happen to me? I let it ride once and person stopped and 'went away' . Second time they said they'd open a dispute if I didn't refund and that afternoon ( I'd been in work so not seen email notification) they opened a dispute. I refunded immediately on returning home and all was fine. Thankfully both lots were hatching eggs so relatively cheap ( quality pun!) so refunding was neither here nor there.

GoldenButtercup · 14/06/2018 08:33

Ask her to open an item not received request with ebay. As long as you resolve it, ie refund, it won't affect your account.

It also means that there is a record on eBay of her claiming non receipt which eBay do monitor as some people seem to think that eBay means Freebay.

lljkk · 14/06/2018 08:36

After she's opened the not-received claim. & assuming not tracked delivery.

Put her on your blocked bidders list (google how to do this).
(There are places you can share her Ebay name online if it makes you feel better.)
Apologise, refund.
Does OP get funds back after refunding for not-received? I don't know current scheme.
Claim back from Royal Mail or courier as much as you can using Proof of Posting.
Some folk are scum.

Gates · 14/06/2018 08:46

Thanks all. Will be paying her just to stop a dispute. Lesson learnt will get tracking next time. Cant believe this is the first time its happened in about 8/9 years

A buyer has to wait 2 weeks for an item to arrive. You are not obliged though refund unless the seller opens a case against you for non-delivery. When you posted the item out, you will have been given a slip with the persons house number and postcode on it. Dig that out as it will also have a reference number on it. Enter this in to the post office website and it will give a status if the package.

NotSinisterAtAll · 14/06/2018 09:34

You can then also use the same slip to claim your money back for the postage from the post office as it’s ‘lost’.

inchoccyheaven · 14/06/2018 11:23

If you still have your proof of posting and it was a parcel there is a delivery reference number on it which means that once the postman says they habe delivered it, it will show up on the royal mail track your item service. This is different to having it signed for but is proof the postman says it was delivered and could therefore be disputed by you.

Dulcedelecherocks · 14/06/2018 11:31

I sell a lot on eBay and although I only ever say on the item I'll send it first or second class, if it sells for more than 5/6 quid I pay and extra pound to have it signed for. That way they can't claim non receipt. It's a pain and it does take away from what you've made but it keeps you safer as a seller. There are too many dishonest people around and some will take advantage of the system!

OneInEight · 14/06/2018 11:54

I think you run the risk of negative feedback by being so slow to refund. Our policy in these circumstances is to refund quickly because parcels can go missing rather than assume the buyer is dishonest. More than once we then have had a refund of the refund when the parcel does eventually turn up. Most people are honest even on ebay!

FreshHerbs · 14/06/2018 11:57

I sell quite regularly on eBay for over 3 years now. I've had a few people try it on big time and it's usually people with a very low feedback score. I always send my items signed for now and I've also decided not to sell any of my items to people with a feedback score of 20 or under which I state in my item listings. I also security mark any clothing I send out with an invisible security pen.For me it's just not worth the hassle so that's why I adopted this approach.

Once I sent some expensive makeup out to a buyer. Once she received ,buyer stated that the makeup was out of date and had gone off, I knew this was untrue so asked her to send back to me and then I would refund, she declined to send it back to me and instead left me negative feedback which took my 100 percent score down. She then set up another account two weeks down the line and brought more makeup off me and then claimed she had not received. She got her money back after raising a case with eBay.Because I sell quite regularly I did not realise that I was sending to her even though the address looked familiar to me. She set up another account and brought some more stuff but I realised it was her. I cancelled order, she left me negative feedback again dropping my score lower.
After liaising with eBay I got my score back to 100 percent, her negative feedback was taken away and I blocked her accounts. I lost over £100 including p and p costs and it was an expensive lesson learned.

I also sold a Adidas pair of leggings to a buyer, they claimed they were fake and sent them back to me. What they sent back was not the leggings I sent them. They came back with stains, a few holes and was a different size.

The cheek of people ay?

Luckily now because I'm an expert at eBay I do not get done over anymore. Because of all the things I do to protect myself I only seem to attract genuine buyers only.

Check me out on eBay guys roseapples12 to see my item listings with my criteria to buyers

MikeUniformMike · 14/06/2018 12:08

Tell buyer to go through Ebay. Ebay usually sides with the buyer.

Gates · 14/06/2018 21:50

Thanks all for your help ☺

Deffinately right about people with low feedback scores this ladies quite low. Whenever I have none payments its always low scorers. Like to give benefit of the doubt though in all cases so dont want to stop dealing with low scorers when could be a perfectly reasonable explanation

Shumpalumpa · 14/06/2018 21:53

Don't give anyone the benefit of the doubt and send everything by signed for delivery!

It's eBay not a charity!

MikeUniformMike · 14/06/2018 22:05

Just looked at roseapples12. You do sound like you mean business.
