To wonder why they beep?

I’ve just walked down a reasonably busy suburban street. A car driving past pulled over to left as far as it could, right next to curb, and as it passed me, the driver beeped. Why?!
Why do people (men?) beep at strangers? I’m wearing jeans and it’s happened when I’ve been out running too. It would not be ok if I was wearing a mini skirt either but I would “understand” (and vehemently disagree with) the possible motivation in that scenario.
Is it to frighten people, to see if they can make people jump? Either way, I don’t like. Confused and pissed off

@Bodear definitely one day I will, it was not an isolated incident I remember walking past a builders site on my lunch break when I was working in Islington and some vile idiot said "I'll pay you a grand if you let him take you up that arse" (I have quite a large bum) I was so disgusted and humiliated that I walked off...his mate looked whilst he was killing himself laughing. I told my colleague and she marched me back down there with our boss directly to the site office!

They were floored when I told them what happened, he was brought to the office and at first was like "it was just a bit of banter" and a half arsed sorry...women can't take a joke nowadays apology...after stern words from all 3 of us and his boss he was immediately dismissed and escorted off the site for gross misconduct. I got the feeling this wasn't the first time something like this had happened with him. This was a man in his 40s in charge of about 30 young brickies!

To be fair I do like working out at home more than in a public space, I get a choice of my own music, can nip downstairs when I want for a drink and have nice shower in my lovely new bathroom

@Haudyerwheesht err yuck my Neice is going through that at the minute, young lads in cars slowing down when they are in school uniform, beeping at them, shouting stuff...trying to get her and her friends to get in their cars! Just horrible...I wish people would just have some respect!
