To think I'm not the selfish one? Or am I?

I was on a Facebook page earlier which was discussing the benefits of cannabis oil for medical conditions following the story of the little boy with epilepsy.
Someone posted that they should just legalise the normal one people smoke in order to prevent medicine companies profiting from the medical version which I didn't agree with. (Obviously I have no issue with the medical version and I do agree medical companies profit too much)

I was absolutely jumped on for it, called a selfish bitch and pretty nasty stuff.

The reason I disagree is we live in flats and our front doors are very close together with a shared enclosed hall.
All properties owned by this landlord including our flats are non smoking but the neighbour nearest to us smokes heavily and I'm pretty sure from the smell Cannabis is involved.

Because the hallway is unventilated and Cannabis is so strong our whole flat reeks of the smell as soon as we open our front door and it is seeping into the property.
It's so bad that people walking passed the flats have commented on the smell through the open windows.
I have children (one with a chronic chest condition) and they have a young child themselves. One of my children is badly effected by it to a point she has vomited, cried because her eyes have stung so badly and we have an appointment with one of her medical team on Monday because she has been much worse in the two weeks since they have moved in.

I am very unhappy about this especially as it is affecting my children and their bedroom reeks. They are embarrassed about having friends over.

Apparently I am selfish though and it's non of my business what they do behind their own front door.

So aibu and what can I do to limit the smell
from our property.

I’d take anything said on a Facebook group with a pinch of salt.

Hideandgo

Well I would usually say the same to be honest but there were loads of them and I was absolutely jumped on.
I mean I know Cannabis consumption is pretty common these days but it is also pretty potent and are people really that convinced that they think everyone else should have to smell their shit too? :(

Contact your landlord - make it his problem to sort?

Sickofpeople · 14/06/2018 06:06

I have spoken to landlord. He is coming to inspect the property at the end of a three month period. This is usually with a weeks notice so they have time to lessen the smell.

I completely agree with you Sickofpeople, and have had some "fun" debates regarding this in the past and present. I do not think it should be legalized but do recognize it has properties that can help some conditions and can be an excellent medication for certain cases. But I am concerned about the further mental and physical effects it may have on healthy individuals and as in your case, the possibility of secondary exposure. It is not harmless despite some people illusions regarding this drug.

Regarding the flats and new neighbors, is there any form you can complain to? Or call the SS and police expect my head to get bitten off for that one

technojoe · 14/06/2018 06:15

If your Landlord can't sort it out, call the police as they are breaking the law.

Buzzlightyearsbumchin · 14/06/2018 06:19

It's illegal just now and you have this problem so legalizing it wouldn't actually make much difference in your situation anyway.

Contact your neighbours landlord or even the non emergency police for their advice.

Having just witnessed someone close to me stopping smoking cannabis after 20 years I wouldn't want it legalised either, it isn't completely harmless and non addictive. It should be regulated as much as possible but it should definitely be used for medical use, it can be amazing stuff if used correctly.
