To like the magpies in my garden.

We have several bird feeders in our garden. We also have a large bird bath.
Everyday we have two magpies (i think the same ones but who knows) come into our garden have some feed and a dip in the bath.

Tonight me DH DS3 DD1 have just been watching three huge magpies all dip in and out of the bird bath and eat some left over rasberries we put out.

I always thought magpies were a known as a bit of a nuisance but it's lovely to watch these maybe same few coming into the garden?

AIBU to encourage them to my garden?

This is my crow. I keep trying to release him but he refuses to go. He just runs round the garden for a few hours and then goes back in the aviary. He can fly, he just chooses not to.

We have lots of jackdaws around here, rather than magpies, and my neighbours are furious with them for scoffing smaller birds and eggs.

I really don't get the anger. Animals eat other animals. It is humans, not corvids, that throw nature out of balance.

I love magpies and jackdaws. Being a bit killy is part of their attraction.

I also love the heron that came into our garden and murdered our pet fish. And the sparrowhawk (or kestrel?) that did its best to make dinner out of my pet budgies when I put their cage in the garden.

The magpies nesting near me actually chase away the neighbours' cats which are also a danger to garden birds.

Lovely mini doc about a man who lives with a magpie:

I'm annoyingly superstitious about the one that keeps popping into my garden. Stupid, I know.
