Bloody awful day, and now going to cost me a fortune!

Awful day, tantruming toddler all day, feel awful myself, house a constant tip, no energy to do anything, and just been one of those rubbish days.

Then I thought I would clean the car. Couldn’t get the little black bits of black bugs off so I thought I would use a gentle sponge scouter. Didn’t notice the damage I was doing till it dried. Safe to say one side of my car needs a total respray. I feel so stupid, and upset. Now uncontrollable sobbing about everything while trying to stop a toddler from throwing himself off the sofa.

I don’t have thousands to pay for the paint job so it’s going to look hideous for ages. Why can I never have anything nice.

Do one nice thing for yourself whenever you get the chance, hate days like this x

Unfortunately @Leobynature OP's car is on PCP so she'll have to do something or take the hit when it goes back.

OP, if it makes you feel any better I've just got my car back from being repaired after scraping it along a telegraph pole. I put it down to the metal so I put it through insurance though. Had I had an old car I would have left it but I'd only had it 6 months. It'll take a long time to live it down!

ShotsFired · 15/06/2018 11:48

If it makes you feel any better OP, I once moved a 3 day old, brand new from the factory, car around a corner wall and scratched the entire length of it (totally misjudged the new wider vehicle compared to previous)

I used red shoe polish to cover up the scratches till it got repaired Grin

I WEPT when I saw what I'd done.

My dad used to own a garage. He had one car on the forecourt that became an object of fascination.. The owner had collected if from the dealer that morning - brand new, and on the first day of the year for that registration. It was completely wrecked - and had less than 20 miles on the clock. The proud new owner had somehow lost control and hit a telegraph pole.... and in a panic somehow reversed into a wall. Stoved in fore and aft!

Thanks everyone. I’ve not had the energy to take it anywhere last few days but will be on my list for my day off next week.

Fingers crossed it can be polished out.

I’ve had deeper scratched repaired on my driveway by a franchise called ChipsAway. They might be worth a call as they could be cheaper than a garage.

spanishwife · 15/06/2018 12:50

You should move to Spain! Every single car is covered in scratches and scrapes (even the very posh ones!).

It's not a huge deal - not worth getting worked up over! I'm sure it can be sorted and for a decent price - shop around and get a few quotes as it really is only very cosmetic.

Justaboy · 15/06/2018 12:51

I rather doubt this requires a re-spray have a word with a local body shop and see what they recommded and yes, as suggested do talk to ChipsAway or similar firms its amazing what they can do and make
unnoticable:)

If this car was to be put back on a dealers forecort I very very much doubt they'd do a respray on it, people like car valeters can a lot of the time work wonders!

LoudestRoar · 15/06/2018 13:02

I know you posted about the car, but just wanted to say keep going. Tantrumming toddlers can be awful to deal with, and take all your energy. Flowers

NoNarnas · 17/06/2018 09:14

My wonderful Dad has managed to polish out the majority of the scratches with some old fashioned elbow grease and some cut T-Cut! There is one that was an older scratch that I will take for a profession opinion soon but it all looks much better!

I hope you bought him a great Father’s Day present!

hatchypomagain · 17/06/2018 11:59

Chips away and the like are brilliant I've used them plenty of times for deep scratches and dents - car came out like new
