To buy a coat

Hi everyone

How do I dress my newborn baby in summer? Does she need a coat? Will she be too cold around the house in vests or too warm in sleepsuits?

She's my first and I have no clue what to dress her in when we're out and about! I drive so she'll only be in her pram when shopping/walking the dog/days out etc but I really feel the slightest gust of wind so I'm guessing a tiny baby will too?

AIBU to buy a snowsuit? Grin

Cotton sleepsuits are good for summer, you can get a footmuff for the pram pushchair so you can open or close easily depending on the weather. i think a snowsuit would be too warm.

A little jacket (not too thick) and a footmuff for the bottom half which is easy to remove if baby is hot. Definitely not a snowsuit for summer!

One layer more than you is meant to be the rule so if you're in shorts and vest then maybe tights, dress and a little cardigan, blankets can always be added on top and taken off easily. Vest and sleep suit is also good

They do little cotton trousers with feet too, those are good with a vest and perhaps a tee-shirt on top.

Layers all always good, cotton sleepsuits/vests or if quite warm cotton rompers, tshirts/leggings/shorts/vests, cardigan or light jacket you can then easily take off/put on I don’t think a coat is necessary at the moment & maybe wait a while for a snowsuit😃
Yy footmuffs as they are easy to adjust, today my dgd had a vest loose cotton top/leggings & cotton cardigan, also had a light jacket with me as it was cool in the breeze, but warmed up when the sun eventually came out, so ended up taking her cardigan off for a while.
I hard trying to gauge appropriate clothing at times, layers are the way to go.

When I had my first dc I remember the midwife telling me that she will let you know if she is cold but she won't if she is too hot, she will just go to sleep. That bit of advice has always stuck with me and I'm usually worried about whether my babies are too hot.
It's really dangerous for babies to overheat. If they are cold then they will cry and you will figure out why and can put another layer on. It's way too warm for a snowsuit. On really hot days I would say just a vest or a summer romper, warm days a cotton sleepsuit/ 1 layer outfit and on cooler days a vest underneath sleepsuits or outfit. Just have a blanket to hand if she seems cold.
It's safer for your baby to be a bit chilly than to be too hot.

Good advice nopoint, I was trying to say that in my post but brain a bit frazzled due havin dgd all day😳

They do really good baby sleeping bags in TK maxx for the night time. My DS is always quite warm but we've been fine with a 1 tog sleeping bag and a vest underneath.
