and lively discussion ?
The minute any vigorous debate begins MNHQ deletes the thread. Thread deletion has become draconian. If a couple of people are uncomfortable and report a thread, it is taken down - no respect shown for all the possibly hundreds of posters on the thread who may be fine with it.
I'm not talking obvious troll threads, or things that are deliberately inflammatory, goady or bigoted. I'm talking about topics that may be sensitive and hard to discuss. Usually the title makes clear what the content will be, so people can choose whether they want to join in that debate.
I avoid threads where I think I may find the content personally upsetting, and I would assume that other people are quite sensible enough to make that decision too.
We are adults and should be allowed to discuss difficult topics, and allowed to monitor for ourselves whether we wish to continue reading them or not. Fine to delete openly abusive posts when people are unable to remain civil, but the 'we think this thread is a bit too much for you to cope with even though you are grown ups' deletions are incredibly frustrating.
If the percentage of people still posting on a thread and coping fine outweighs the number of people reporting the thread, why does the majority not rule ?
Maybe AIBU should just be abolished and be replaced with 'kittens' or 'sparkly things' or 'Am I Being Bland Enough ?'
