To think if normal, everyday neighbourly noise annoys you....

Then you should go and live in a field in the middle of nowhere?

We have a family who live directly over the back of us, mother father and two kids. The parents literally whinge and complain about everything. They've fallen out with both sets of next door neighbours, not sure what for but they don't speak and haven't done for some time.

Not content with that they also seem intent on pissing everyone who doesn't even live on their street, namely us and out nearby neighbours. Just off the top of my head they've complained about numerous barking dogs, despite having dogs that bark themselves, demanded that two large conifer trees were cut down because the birds that nested in it were waking them up, DIY work done at during the day, lawnmowers etc.

The latest is a whinges are about my next door neighbour security light shining on their windows and my other next door neighbours making the most of the evening by sitting out chatting quietly. The husband stuck his head out the window and yelled at them to shut up! They weren't even being noisy!

I just think if everyday, normal stuff annoys you so much then maybe living in such close proximity to others isn't for you? Either that or their just sad fucks with nothing else going on in their little lives. The complaing about the singing birds was especially stupid. I mean how can you stop sodding birds tweeting for god's sake?

This is a nice area, everyone looks out for each other and they really are bloody spoiling it!

I feel really sorry for the couple who live next door to us, I remember in my old house pre-kids the family next door drove me potty. People make noise though, especially kids, there's not a lot you can do about it!

letsallhaveanap · 12/06/2018 15:00

god the searchlight thing... We live in a very hilly area and there this house across the valley thats sort of on its own.. large house which seems to be detatched and have large gardens.... it must actually be miles away but is directly opposite us up the hill on the opposite side of the valley
Well it has this light that I can only describe as being like a rescue helicopter searchlight... honestly its like those alien films where the light beams you up to the spaceship... and I guess it must be on a censor or something because it randomly turns on in the middle of the night sometimes god knows why... and it shines directly into our bedroom window across the valley and directly into my face in bed... first time it happened I did actually think it was a police search helicopter...
No way we can complain about this as itd be mental due to the distance of the house, its miles away so not a neighbour at all.... but I do think its so so odd... what is the need to have a floodlight that bright? bright enough to shine miles away? bizarre!!

Itchytights · 12/06/2018 15:01

Would much rather live in a field than next to my selfish wankery neighbours.

They dictate by their noise the time
myself and the whole family go to bed and when we get up.

They are selfish cunts.

I so wish I could live in a field.

ikeepaforkinmypurse · 12/06/2018 15:03

People who want to be noisy and inconsiderate should move in the middle of nowhere, the ones who decide to live surrounded by neighbours accept to be considerate, it's not that hard!

LeighaJ · 12/06/2018 15:08

I'd prefer to not live with neighbours nearby, if we could afford it in a place that had good jobs for both of us and a good school. If wishes were horses. Grin

"Either that or their just sad fucks with nothing else going on in their little lives."

As for your neighbours I think you nailed it with that sentence.

Although a security light (if it shined into bedrooms) would piss me the fuck off too.

TakeawayTakeMeAway · 12/06/2018 15:10

They’ve complained to a local farmer about the noise her sheep make!

That's made my day that has @bustopherjones

CantStandMeow · 12/06/2018 15:13

My favourite complaints are the people who move into flats and complain about being able to hear people walking around upstairs. Of course their neighbours below never hear them walking or living. It's only the people above them making noiseHmm

ikeepaforkinmypurse · 12/06/2018 15:14

I hate noise and can't stand inconsiderate neighbours. I am still angry however about the morons who cause the church bells to stop! I love them, completely understand they are not of everyone's taste, but don't move next to a church if the noise bothers you! Idiots.

I bet the owners of the "search light" in the hill opposite don't realise that the light is that bright, it's easily done. it's a difficult one!

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 12/06/2018 15:15

The security light one is actually genuinely irritating. They are so bright!

I live in a new development of a lot of blocks of flats, and the neighbour next door to me is an absolute twat. I am so glad he is selling up!
He lives alone and has 1 middle school aged child, and complains that his upstairs neighbours (new ones) have a toddler that runs around during the day/early evening. Apparently it's like elephants stomping around. I'm sure his precious son has NEVER made any noise even as a toddler!
He complains about noise from outside even though he chose to buy the flat facing into a main road.
He posted a picture once of our car onto social media because it was apparently parked too close to his. Didn't say anything to us about it though. (We have allocated parking bays and we were perfectly within the line!)

Yes it gets noisy around here because there's lots of families wth young children etc. Our flat faces into the communal garden and in the summer especially lots of children are out playing, people take their dogs out but to me it's just noise. As long as it's not ridiculous hours of the morning unfortunately that is the price you pay for living in such close quarters!

MimpiDreams · 12/06/2018 15:24

I think they may be my old neighbours. Complained about the noise we made every bloody day. At first I tried to be quieter but it soon became clear that they didn't want less noise, they wanted no noise, which is impossible.

He complained to the council about my dog barking. My dog was a service dog which only barked when someone came to the door and was otherwise silent.

He complained to the police about DH's anti-social behaviour, starting his car at 6.30 am to go to work. Apparently any decent person would wait until after 7.00.

He even complained about DH shovelling snow too loudly.

I wouldn't have minded so much but this guy had a surround sound tv system and I had to blue tack down things on shelves against the shared wall to stop them bouncing off because it was so bloody loud.

MeMyShelfandIkea · 12/06/2018 15:26

So OP are you going to lend me the funds to live in the middle of nowhere?

bigbluebus · 12/06/2018 15:28

Is there actually such a place where you can live in complete silence though? My PIL used to live in a cottage in the middle of 5 acres of garden which was 1/2 mile from the road down a private track but there was still noise from tractors and RAF fighter jets flying over as well as the obvious wildlife noises!

BlueBiros · 12/06/2018 15:29

When I was at uni one of my flatmates wanted to complain about the people upstairs putting the washing machine on at 10am, when she only had lectures in afternoons so should be allowed to sleep in. We did manage to convince her not to go round but I don't think she ever believed she was actually being unreasonable.

ikeepaforkinmypurse · 12/06/2018 15:29

Grin so true!

Birdsgottafly · 12/06/2018 15:37

People's noise doesn't bother me. But security lights and wind chimes are the work of the devil.

Houses were built by my DD's SEN School, it's in a prime location, now, 20 years ago, no-one wanted to live there.

The school/LEA received many complaints. The residents formed a committee and one of the suggestions was that the SEN buses shouldn't enter the school, the children should be transport in wheelchairs, if necessary. The beeping when reversing was an issue, as was the automatic gates, apparently. When asked where they could park, they drew a blank.

Llanali · 12/06/2018 15:49

Some people will be miserable wankers anywhere.

Life is not silent irrespective of where you live. I think we need more tolerance not just more fields.

I live very rurally, there are foxes and deer, cockerels and owls, tractors and fighter jets.

They harvest through the night in peak season so the mega watt beams shine miles, the engines chug for hours and the dust blows for days.

It’s life; tolerate it, buy ear plugs or move to the arctic circle.

melodybirds · 12/06/2018 15:52

Security lights should be banned.

I need to live in soundprooff box. Too many noises in a field with wildlife.

ManicUnicorn · 12/06/2018 15:52

Thinking about, if they were to move to the countryside these people would almost certainly complain about cows mooing, or god forbid a cockerel crowing as the sun comes up! They are that petty.

They never actually complain to the council about stuff because I think they know they'd be told how ridiculous they are being. But they are not bothered by confrontation and will always do 'research' before knocking on people's front doors and love to quote rules and regulations that they've read on the internet, like it gives them authority. It's quite hilarious really.

No one around here has been unreasonable IMO. I could only just about hear the talking from my neighbours in the garden the other night and I'm right next door. Maybe they should talk in whispers next time?

We have just got a new puppy. I live in a modern semi and I am very worried that the whimpering in the early hours of the morning is going to piss my neighbour off. We are not close neighbours but get on ok and I'd hate to think that our life style choices were impacting on her life.

Her mother has a young dog so she isn't adverse to dogs so I'm hoping that she'll be understanding for a while whilst puppy settles in.

Charolais · 12/06/2018 15:54

I live in the middle of a huge meadow in the middle of nowhere and it is not silent here.

Right now I hear lots of birds, especially doves. A few moments ago a bird of prey had the magpies all stirred up and they went mental in the trees screeching. Last night the coyotes were having a good old sing song on the bluffs behind the house - then the great horned owls were talking to each other, probably complaining about the noise.

These people need to wear ear plugs or live in a dark cave.

crispysausagerolls · 12/06/2018 16:21

MimpiDreams

Your old neighbour must be my old neighbour!!! Lived below us and used to bang on the ceiling for noises such as “getting out of bed to go to work”, “work alarm clock”, “walking around the flat”, “standing up from the sofa”. She had a council owned flat and repeatedly had them round to confirm that no, there was not an insulation problem and no, the noise of us walking was not unreasonable. They offered her a home outside of London several times but she refused. She did the same to the previous tenants and is doing the same to the current ones now. Within 2 days of us moving in and enduring her banging and yelling she said “why do you think the previous tenants left?” - was absolutely dire living above her. I feel very sorry for our ex landlord who keeps having his tenants driven out.

We’ve also had flats above us where yes, you can hear noise and yes, you sometimes wonder if they are throwing their wardrobe around their room but that’s just living in close proximity and outside of inconsiderate noise - super loud tv or music, frequent parties or yelling, there isn’t a lot that can be done.

ValyrianSteelChastityBelt · 12/06/2018 16:31

Please don't tell them to move to the countryside, sounds like they'd be unreasonable arseholes in any kind of environment and we don't want wankers like that here, thanks very much Grin

Elphame · 12/06/2018 16:32

I live in the middle of a huge meadow in the middle of nowhere and it is not silent here.

I'm a lot more tolerant of the sound of sheep ( very noisy in lambing season), foxes, owls, tractors or birdsong etc than I am of my idiot neighbour who cuts his lawn every Sunday afternoon with a strimmer. It takes him 3 hours or my new neighbours 3 children who seem hell bent on knocking seven bells out of each other every afternoon after school and shrieking at full volume whilst they do it....
