Class photos

Call me a sucker but I really like whole class photos. I just like watching the same children grow up and the disorganisation of the nursery/ reception ones!

Anyway, so I found out today that DCs school won't be doing them anymore. Some parents objected to the photo company handling their children's image and refused permission (general data form given earlier this year). This would leave some children being left out of the class photo so the school decided to scrap them.

I understand from the school's POV but AIBU to be a bit sad?

Completely respect parents' right not to have their children on social media but surely this is overkill? The company will have a responsibility to keep the images safe and destroy old ones.

I agree that's a shame, not sure exactly what they're worried about!

That is a pity. We love them and we live in a small community and I know a lot of people will stay in the area and grow up with dc. So we can watch them grow. But look.. we all have to respect everyone and I suppose there is no privacy anymore and a lot of data / intrusion and people have their reasons

Its fucking ridiculous, is what it is.

That's such a shame, someone I sent to primary school with posted a class picture on FB the other day, tagged as many people as she was FB friends with and encouraged others to tag those she didn't have. It was so funny seeing everyone responding and how they look now Vs the gappy teeth, freckles, pig tail plaits, checked summer dresses anf tailored shorts of then. Our old headmaster even ended up in the comments.

Families with fostered or adopted children often have to refuse permission for photos. I doubt it will be because of the photo company but if you are given one form for all photos you have to say no really.

Its a shame the school has given up on class photos though. Some schools have the children in question stand out for one shot which is used for any publication. I guess these days anyone can put anything on Facebook, its not like it's just on the mantelpiece.

I get the whole adoption/ fostering security thing but how many children can this affect per class?

I'm sure it's a hassle for the school to ask particular kids to step out, but it's like a snapshot of a era. My primary school ones have 70s haircuts, jumpers etc!

I suppose this could ultimately affect team photos too.

Glad I'm not alone in my POV
