Tan Advice!

I'm getting married in 9 weeks and NEVER used take tan or a sunbed! I want some colour for the day. What would you recommend? I've very pale naturally.

Would you recommend a sunbed? How long do I go for initialy and how often? I'm leaning more towards sunbed as I don't know how orange a spray tan would be!

Get a nice spray tan, don’t risk skin cancer just for some photos.

Plump82 · 10/06/2018 21:33

No no no please dont use a sun bed. I'd highly recommend Clarins tanning drops. You put them into your normally moisturiser. Basically turns it into gradual tanner but it means you can use a moisturiser that suits you and wont break you out etc. You get a body one and a facial one.

villainousbroodmare · 10/06/2018 21:34

Sunbeds are so dangerous. Find a good salon to do a light spray tan. You've got 9 weeks to experiment.

adaline · 10/06/2018 21:35

Just use fake tan!

Why would you risk skin cancer for some photos?!

peoplearemean · 10/06/2018 21:37

Try a sienna tan you can have it graded so you don't look too orange.

Mybabystolemysanity · 10/06/2018 21:39

Don't go near sunbeds. Try St Tropez in shower. Exfoliate really well, use a mitt to apply it in the shower, rinse systematically from top down and dab dry with a towel then give another buff over with a dry mitt. Do in the evening and put on loose pyjamas, no tight knickers and no slippers.

Comes up very subtle but always dead even. I don't wash my palms afterwards and have never had a problem with staining or telltale white palms. Exfoliate wierd bits like armpits extra well.

PuppetOnAString · 10/06/2018 21:45

I like the Clarins tanning drops too. Very easy and it works.

SilverHairedCat · 10/06/2018 21:48

Clarins tanning drops here too. Mild, not streaky, can be as light a touch as you like.

Or maybe don't tan at all, and be as natural as you usually are? It's your choice!

specialsubject · 10/06/2018 21:49

if you are naturally fair then you have high risk of looking oompa loompad, especially in a dead white dress. dont frighten the groom.

there are three products which are totally legal yet dangerous if used as instructed - socket covers, sunbeds and cigarettes. forget that.

Spray tans are great, they offer many shades to cover all skin types so you won't be orange if you go to someone reputable. I had never had one prior to my wedding so I had a practise one for my hen party and I was very pleased with it so booked again for the wedding and my honeymoon. It looked very natural. I used to have occasional sun beds in my early 20s but I prefer the spray tan results as well as the fact it's not dangerous and takes 10 minutes. It also lasts reasonably well (4-7 days, showering normally but no exfoliating and not shaving as much). Bonus is I looked like I lost a stone!

SilverHairedCat · 10/06/2018 22:06

I hated my spray tan - I sweated during the application (at a reputable salon) and ended up visibly streaky with obvious sweat runs down my arms and legs, orange marks around my nail beds and between my fingers, and around my hairline.

All fake tan had its risks, and for your wedding I can't advocate enough - practice, practice, practice!!

If it goes wrong, you need enough time for it to fade / wear off before your wedding, as you can't easily remove it.

SpiritedLondon · 10/06/2018 22:15

I think a gradual tanner used with a mitt to make sure it’s even. I’m pale and am currently using the St Tropez in-shower one mentioned above ( which has a pale version). India Knight recommended it in her beauty column last week in the Sunday Times. I think the problem with spray tans is that they can be a bit full on if you’re not used to them but even if you get a subtle effect you’re after they can look patchy as they rub off. ( granted after 7 days or so ) So if you’re off on honeymoon straight after the wedding to somewhere hot you can find yourself in weird tan limbo land where your fake tan looks patchy / scaley and your real tan won’t be established enough at that point.... so you then look like you have a weird skin condition. If you are using the gradual tanner you can take a small travel bottle to keep topped up as you tan. So for that reason I would choose that option.

amyddss · 11/06/2018 06:50

Definitely a spray tan! Sun beds are shit, you just feel horrible after them not to mention they're not very good for you. Definitely would get yourself booked in for a nice light/medium tan somewhere so it's done properly & congrats on the weddingGrinThanks!!

BumbleNova · 11/06/2018 06:56

I can't believe sunbeds are still legal. They are so dangerous.

Get yourself a good gradual tan or even easier, a wash off one. I used James read on my wedding day, a really light layer and if you don't like it, all you need to do is wash it off.

nawnee2 · 11/06/2018 07:07

Don't get a spray tan if you don't normally as. You may look a little weird in the photos. In the run up to my summer wedding, I sunbathed whenever I got the chance and by the time the wedding rolled round I had a nice colour.

loveisland · 11/06/2018 07:11

Agree no sun beds, now a days tanners are so good don't stain realistic there's no need for sunbeds. Regrettably done both types. You will have to start going weeks before to get the colour right, I needed 50 mins split up on many sessions to get my pale ass butt brown

Headoverheartiskey · 11/06/2018 07:54

I used fake tan for years. Hated it, it smells, it goes on your clothes and ever the good ones go patchy.
I started using sunbeds but initially because if I go out into direct sunlight my chest, my neck, my arms and the top of my legs would come out in blisters. They were very unpleasant, sore, red, lumpy and itchy. Someone suggested sunbeds might help stop this happening. I thought anything was worth a try at that point. Sun cream didn't work, anti histamine didn't work.
I was nervous to go, I still am because I am fully aware of the risks.
So far this year we have had a lot of sun and I've had no blisters. Maybe it's a coincide, but I doubt it.
I do not have a dark tan, just have a colour. I go once every 2 or 3 weeks.
I will get ripped to shreds now for telling you that now OP 😂

BeijingBarbie · 11/06/2018 07:57

I am not a regular tanner but I used spray tan for my wedding and it was perfect... maybe have a trial beforehand to check you like it. FYI I don’t think that modern spray tans (especially salon ones) are orange at all - they have a green pigment to stop it...
also please please please don’t use a sunbed, they are so so so bad for your skin

Mamabear14 · 11/06/2018 08:09

I've been using that skinny tan oil stuff. It makes my arms and chest a lovely colour and is idiot proof. I got my son to do my back! I always find my legs go a bit orange, even wiyh a spray tan and I have dry knees that I can't get rid of no matter how much exfoliate and it does cling to that. But you might be better at applying it to your legs than me!

Fluffyears · 11/06/2018 08:39

I don’t understand why you want to be a different colour for your wedding. I am pale but I embraced it. I put a light shimmer ;it’s a bar from lush) over my arms and chest as that was the only parts you could see. I prefer a rub on tan at a Salon to a spray as it’s applied better but you need to try one out and start prepping your skin. Exfoliate every day in the shower using the ‘scrubby’ mitts, concentrate on knees, tops of feet, heels, upper arms and elbows. Moisturise twice a day and drink a lot of water to make sure your skin is in good condition.

Sunbeds are bad for you especially if you are pale. I always think they are grubby with all those people swearing (yes they clean them but still ew!)

Fluffyears · 11/06/2018 08:40

Oops *sweating but may be swearing.
