A family just got up and left this appalling mess for the staff to clear up. Is this normal behaviour?

YANBU, that's beyond the pail.

When DS was tube fed sometimes it would leak on the bus and I would quite often be found hanging off a pole mopping up a trail of milk before it ran into someone's foot.

I can not stand people who let their children make mess in public and don't even try to clean it up.

So rude and inconsiderate.

agedknees · 10/06/2018 14:49

Totally unacceptable. I wonder what their house looks like?

Bloody hell. I’ve never seen anything like it. What the hell were they doing! The very least would have been a huge grovelling apology before walking out and leaving the staff to deal with that little lot.

Allthewaves · 10/06/2018 14:57

Wow. My toddlers made mess like that but myself and dh always got down and cleared it up

Sparklesocks · 10/06/2018 14:57

Gross. Some people have no respect for service staff and don’t care that someone has to pick up their mess for them.

I’m guessing they didn’t leave a big enough tip for the mess either...

PumpkinPie2016 · 10/06/2018 14:59

YANBU - totally unacceptable! Going kids can make mess when eating (although my son was never this bad!) However, I have always asked for a dustpan and brush or cloth to clear up. Often staff have said its ok but I wouldn't dream of not offering!

Sparklingbrook · 10/06/2018 15:00

The over - reactions to the photo are just sublime !

Can't see any over reactions. Just opinions.

Buzzlightyearsbumchin · 10/06/2018 15:02

How do you know they didn't offer to clear up and staff refused? unless you are staff then you really shouldn't be posting pictures

BiscayTrafalgarFitzroy · 10/06/2018 15:03

That is vile. Today in the supermarket a woman gave her small child an apple to eat. The child took two bites and threw the rest on the floor and she just left it there! Some people are just disgusting and obnoxious.

SoddingUnicorns · 10/06/2018 15:04

I was talking to a barista in our local Costa (because a family had left a mess like that as I was walking in) and she was so used to it she didn’t bat an eyelid. Apparently the new thing is to let kids open the LOL confetti balls so the mess is for someone else to clear up!!!

Rude. Just rude and extremely bloody arrogant.

Mummyoflittledragon · 10/06/2018 15:05

Shocking Shock. My dd was a food thrower. I used to take a plastic sheet to protect the carpet and clear it up if we went out.

CheeseCakeSunflowers · 10/06/2018 15:06

I work in a supermarket and occasionally get asked to help out in the cafe when they are short staffed clearing the tables. I have been shocked as to how some customers look down on people doing this type of work and how they leave the tables. Thankfully other customers are lovely and do their best to make clearing the table as easy as possible, it takes all sorts I suppose.

uncoolnn · 10/06/2018 15:09

God I'd be mortified. YANBU.

sweetboykit · 10/06/2018 15:11

I knew someone who potty trained her dd on holiday so hotel staff would clean up the accidents.
Awful.

DarkDarkNight · 10/06/2018 15:12

Not acceptable at all. I would never leave a mess like that for someone else to clean. Some people are utter dicks. I always do my best to leave the table and surroundings clear including picking up mess off the floor.

DarkDarkNight · 10/06/2018 15:14

Buzz because anybody with any decency would just automatically clean it up, it’s common courtesy.

If you ask staff they will feel obliged to say ‘no we’ll do it’ when that is not a normal amount of mess.

FeckinCrunchiesInTheCar · 10/06/2018 15:16

YANBU.
I worked as a waitress and l saw worse than this often.
It is dreadful though.

Orangecake123 · 10/06/2018 15:17
Shock

Disgusting behavior.

MumofBoysx2 · 10/06/2018 15:18

No, it's disgusting. If my children made a mess like that I'd ask for a dustpan and brush and clean it up myself - and leave a big tip. Not on.

Extravagant · 10/06/2018 15:23

Fine, as long as they also left a £20 note behind...

londoneast · 10/06/2018 15:25

They probably have babies/very young children.
I would have atleast cleaned some of it if it was me and my family personally

Potato2242 · 10/06/2018 15:26

There's a high chair at the centre of the mess so I'd say a toddler made it and although it's very rude to except someone else to tidy the crumbs,I doubt they would carry a dustpan and brush with them. I'd feel awkward leaving it in that state but I wouldn't know what to do other than to prevent it from happening in the first place or apologise on the way out

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 10/06/2018 15:30

I used to work in a café and once a woman changed her toddler's shitty nappy on the table and then left the nappy on the table when she left. The café was full. All sorts of other disgusting messes were left too, but that was easily the worst.

As a result, I now wipe the table, make sure I pick up any dropped food and often carry the dirty plates and glasses to the kitchen. Sometimes the staff don't look too happy with me, but I always say "I'm sorry, I used to work somewhere like this, I can't help it" and they have always understood. One offered me a job!

I think it's my responsibility to make sure my children understand that they are making extra work for someone else if they make a mess, and to make sure they clean up after themselves. They do it without thinking now and that makes outing nicer for us all.
