how long can building work go on for?

Neighbours have been building a huge extension for 18months now.
They have sacked their contractors and are now finishing it themselves. They have walls, roof, and windows in but still a lot of inside work to do. Kitchens, bathrooms, knocking down internal walls…all still to do.
Tonight they have a really stinky bonfire and I now have ash on everything in my garden. All over the grass, everywhere.
Is there a time limit work can go on for? Surely enough is enough now.

Nope I don't think so. Tbh apart from the fire, I don't see the problem?

feathermucker · 09/06/2018 21:16

Have you spoken to them about it? There are restrictions which should be on your local council website.

JennyHolzersGhost · 09/06/2018 21:16

What is it exactly that’s the problem OP? Is it noise, frequent bonfires ...? There’s no limit time wise as far as I know but there are plenty of remedies, it just depends what exactly it is they’re doing which is getting on your wick.

Indefinite noise and disruption doesn’t seem like a problem to you? Hmm

I can’t answer your question OP, but I do sympathise. I hope they finish the work soon.

Thanks.
tbh, its the noise that bothers me. We are attached neighbours so the noise comes through loud and clear. And the mess out the front.

We're in a similar situation. Doesn't bother us. The neighbour isn't living there at the moment. We can play our music as loud as we want in the evening. DH and I are currently being competitive on the Sonos.

During which time our other neighbours have built a whole granny annex in their garden and thats all done and finished now.

I don't see the relevance in what the other people have done. Building works can vary.

If they're being kind and courteous and sticking to the working hours indont think there's anything you can do

JennyHolzersGhost · 09/06/2018 21:25

So there are limits to the timings of construction noise. Check your local council website, it should say. You can definitely complain on those grounds.

With the fire - if it was close to houses and/or near overhanging trees or vegetation then the fire brigade would come round and have a word.

1805 · 09/06/2018 21:26

Jenny - would it be classed as DIY? or a construction site?

Doesn’t matter hugely, there are rules about both partic if it’s regular. Have you looked at the noise and building works guidelines on your local council website ?

1805 · 09/06/2018 21:47

yes, I have looked, but it only gives outlines for contractors working on sites.
