Ok so this is not strictly an AIBU but looking for some reassurance

I had a c section last Friday (my second) and have been recovering since then. It’s been a much more painful recovery than my first one 3 years ago. I’ve been getting quite intense pain in my back passage and lower abdomen/womb area. It passed and I’ve not been too badly hindered by the pain.

Here’s where I need reassurance.

I went to the bathroom tonight for a pee and as I was mid stream I felt something pass. I wasn’t too concerned as I assumed it would just be a blood clot. No no no. It was like something from bloody the Alien movies. Flesh coloured and looked like it didn’t belong in the toilet. Had this happened to anyone. I’m scared to google it and the midwife isn’t due back out til next week.

FWIW since I’ve passed this, the pain has kind of gone away?

Any advice would be appreciated

My SIL had a piece of placenta leftover that caused her huge amounts of pain until it passed, not sure what it looked like but could be that?

welcomething · 09/06/2018 00:36

Probably retained placenta. Did you take a pic?

Gammeldragz · 09/06/2018 00:37

I'd call the ward you delivered on for advice now. You need to be checked over

welcomething · 09/06/2018 00:37

I mean a pic to show the midwife, not expecting you to post it on here Grin

Gammeldragz · 09/06/2018 00:38

If it's placenta you're at risk of infection so need to be seen.

Gammeldragz · 09/06/2018 00:39

Though I'm not sure retained placenta happens with a c section? Still please call the maternity unit and let them know so they can reassure you.

I had this - decidual cast. Google it, blew my mind - didn't know what it was for years after it happened, but was definitely this.

FizzyGreenWater · 09/06/2018 00:39

It sounds as if it could be something left behind which shouldn't have been - a bit of placenta is the obvious candidate. BUT - that is so absolutely unlikely that I am quite sure there is a more prosaic explanation.

I think you should call the doctor in the morning and see what they say.

Eatmycheese · 09/06/2018 00:40

Definitely call postnatal ward and ask for advice
That doesn’t sound right

FizzyGreenWater · 09/06/2018 00:40

Yes of course call the ward you were on. Much better advice.

youwillalways · 09/06/2018 00:40

I have a number for the midwife. Should I call her tomorrow and ask her for advice.

I didn’t take a picture as I got such a fright I just flushed it

Call the ward tonight. I’ve had three c sections and have always been told to get anything unusual checked right away.

Ceecee18 · 09/06/2018 00:54

I didn't have a section, but had something similar to this. It was a good couple of inches long and about an inch wide, bloody in some parts and fleshy in others. I thought I was dying. It was late at night so I phoned the ward and they said it sounded like part of the normal blending. But that I had been over doing it so part of the lining that was clotting over had come away from the uterus, if that makes sense. They said to monitor that bleeding didn't get heavier or smell and if I had more to call back. I made sure to take it easy for a few days and was fine. It's probably nothing serious, but best to give the labour ward a call now as they can advise you.

walnutwood · 09/06/2018 00:57

Did it look like skin? Decidual cast if so, I had it too once and it’s freaky til you realise what it is!

Monty27 · 09/06/2018 01:00

Get it seem to asap you will be prone to infection Flowers
Congratulations on the new baby but take good care of yourself Smile

Bashfulinseduary · 09/06/2018 03:02

I had retained placenta after an emergency c section. Didn't pass it, though consultant kept saying I would.
Had troubles getting taken seriously as it is apparently rare. D&C a couple of months later sorted it out.

Retained placenta

You need to have a scan to see if more left
