Pregnant and just sold the convertible!

sirmione16 · 08/06/2018 17:13

We found out we're pregnant (yay!) and as many say, it's time for sacrifices now! so obviously my convertible Audi has had to go in place for a sensible (but still nice) car and I can't help feeling rather sad!! I'd waited a long time to get a soft top, saved up a lot and it genuinely is my dream car! Which I'm now waving bye to! Has anyone else had to make sacrifices that were bittersweet when having children?

(Disclaimer: I know it's for the child, I don't regret selling it and I'm over the moon to be pregnant so no criticism here please! Just wondering if anyone else had a similar experience with an item/lifestyle)

Don’t take me too seriously, I miss mine a lot so it’s highly likely I’m projecting! There’s no doubt the big car is the more sensible choice, especially if you’re planning more children. The only thing I’m planning right now though is to have a convertible again one day Grin

NeverTwerkNaked · 08/06/2018 18:19

It’s “I am pregnant” and “we are expecting a baby” . “We’re pregnant is biologically incorrect”

But congratulations, it will be worth the sacrifice I am sure Smile

@NeverTwerkNaked it's reading the thread before commenting so you realise this has already been said and don't make yourself to look silly Halo

I sold my convertible when we started trying thinking it was practical, we’ve been trying for 3 years!! Envy

tealandteal · 08/06/2018 18:37

I don't have a convertible but I am hanging on to my Mini for dear life! Found a pram that would fit in the boot and a next stage car seat that fits in.....but cannot fit DH and car seat in at the same time....so family trips in his car Grin

stevie69 · 08/06/2018 18:39

No, I ramped up the contraception and kept the convertible Blush

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 08/06/2018 18:39

Just don't get over excited and buy an enormous 4 by 4 now for one child. Nearly everyone round here does that and there's really no need for it.
You don't need a gas guzzling truck with off road application just because you own a pram.

Congratulations as well Grin

PorkyPortia · 08/06/2018 18:42

Congratulations 16 !

sirmione16 · 08/06/2018 18:43

Oh and if it makes you feel better, we still had our sports car until I was about to drop. I could barely get in and out of it as it was so low.

sirmione16 · 08/06/2018 19:20

@user1471426142 I love your persistence!!

I kept my motorbike.

Is there no way you can keep it and get another car?

whycantIthinkofadecentusername · 08/06/2018 19:54

I know how you feel. I had to sell my very much loved convertible when I was pregnant with DS. I didn’t have much choice though. It was a two seater. Took five years before I could afford to have a really nice car again. Not that DS wasn’t worth it before anyone says.

Mandraki · 08/06/2018 20:11

Not getting rid per se, but I have always wanted a Citroen DS3, a sporty one in dark red. Last year we got to the point where we could have afforded one..just at the point where we had also decided to start trying for a baby. For a brief second I considered wether I really did want a baby or did I want the DS3. I went with baby, she’s 8 months old now and I drive a bottom the range Yaris. I made the right choice! (Still need that DS3 one day tho..)

  1. I have a convertible
  2. MIL is an advantage taking user

The two things ARE connected. MIL constantly tries to blags lifts off everyone for pointless unnecessary journeys, eg: post office, doctor, shops etc, all a short walk away but she's too lazy to walk.

Anyway, after taking her shopping one day last year she made a sarky dig afterwards about how my 'silly car' was too hard for her to get in and out of. A few days later and she wanted a life somewhere again. I told her I couldn't take her anymore as she wasn't able to get in and out of my car. Immediately she started backtracking.

She asked again a few times after and I just kept repeating "But I can't Mil. You wont be able to get out of my car". She's stopped asking now and will never get a life from me again.

Given that it's the best thing ever for keeping MIL away, you'll have to prize my convertible from my cold dead hands. Grin

bellsbuss · 08/06/2018 20:43

Kept ours with our first and second but with the third it had to go as only 2 seats in the back. I was devastated but after a while I much preferred a bigger car. My friend has one and I hate getting in and out of it

MycatsaPirate · 08/06/2018 20:49

We are out the other side, youngest is now 12 and two years ago, I sold my very practical four door car and bought myself a hard top convertible. I bloody love it. It's completely impractical for anything other than whizzing down to the beach or round town but I adore it. It's definitely the first car I've bought because I just wanted it rather than 'oh that will be good for car seats/shopping/baby/child stuff'.

On a side note, my DD1 is at uni and on placements at the moment, this week she was in theatre at the hospital and got the chance to watch a C-section delivery triplets. She said they were tiny but crying and all seemed fine, off to PICU. Just imagine how to get THREE baby seats in and out of a car.

Skarossinkplunger · 08/06/2018 21:25

Christ on a bike, why the fuck do people have to be so fucking rude? If the OP wants to say “we’re pregnant” then what the actually fuck has it or to do with you, you sour-faced, narrow minded, judgemental wankbadgers.

sirmione16 · 08/06/2018 21:28

@Skarossinkplunger not only do I appreciate your post, I've also learnt new words today too! God help the next person who upsets me hey? ;)

My pleasure. Congrats on the pregnancy, commiserations on the convertible.

ToriaPumpkin · 08/06/2018 21:34

I bought mine after having my second child. I worked out pretty quickly that by putting the roof down I could get pretty much any car seat in Grin I also had (unsolicited) advice from a friend about the kind of pram we should buy as when they had their children they didn't want to get rid of their Lotus Elise Grin

However, I understand. We eventually gave it up for a second sensible car when we moved to a rural area and my suspension wouldn't take it anymore with two kids, a pram and country roads. It's very sad, but my plan is to make them into strong and independent characters so I can buy another when they leave home Wink

Worlds0kayestmum · 08/06/2018 21:37

I had a bright red beetle and loved it very much. Was no way I would be able to fit a pram in the tiny boot or squeeze three kids in the back (pregnancy came six years after the older kids) so very sadly sold it. I have a Citroen picasso now which I was at first gutted about but now absolutely love Grin

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 08/06/2018 22:18

I must admit I find "we're pregnant" a bit cringe worthy. Being pregnant is hard work, at least let us women own that! I can see the sentiment behind it I suppose.
Worst still my brother texting me to say "we're in labour!" No, Your wife's in labour mate, you're just texting people.

Hopefully your car went to a good home and someone else will get as much pleasure from it as you have.
