To not reply to tradesmen

Okaaaaay · 08/06/2018 16:46

Got a few quotes in for a small electricial job - Aibu to only reply to the one we want to use?
Or should I tell the others we’ve chosen someone else too?

You should reply to all. Basic courtesy. (Although a lot of people don’t!)

ApplesTheHare · 08/06/2018 16:50

Basic courtesy to tell them all. They've put time and effort into giving you the quotes and you'd have to be very mean not to spend a little of your own time letting them know.

theressomethingaboutmarie · 08/06/2018 16:51

Of course you should! It's common courtesy. They've taken time out to visit you and to prepare the quote, so you should at least update and thank them. THIS is why people struggle to get quotes, when no one gets back to the tradesperson.

DGRossetti · 08/06/2018 17:05

How about tradesmen that never get back to you - even after visiting ?

ApplesTheHare · 08/06/2018 23:32

DGRossetti you know that's not what the OP asked, right...?

LooksLikeImStuckHere · 08/06/2018 23:33

I always do.

CherryA33 · 08/06/2018 23:35

I think basic courtesy 'thank you for responding but no thanks' is warranted

AnneLovesGilbert · 08/06/2018 23:36

Always reply! Doesn’t take a minute to reply in whatever medium they sent the quote to say “thank you for taking the time to quote. We’ve chosen our supplier now so won’t be needing your services” or something.

Always worth keeping the door open in case the one you chose bails before they start or you don’t like them.

I’ve had handfuls of people quote for jobs then disappear into the ether never to be seen or heard from again. But that’s not a good reason for doing the same.

DGRossetti · 09/06/2018 13:47

DGRossetti you know that's not what the OP asked, right...?

Yes. But I was intrigued by all the love for tradespeople here, and the notion that it's somehow the right thing to reply to all quotes. I wondered if it's a two-way street, and there's an idea that tradesmen - especially after visiting to see a job - should get back to the customer ?

I'm not talking about the ones you call, give the address to and never hear from again, by the way.

DGR

In the circumstances you describe i think the tradesman should quote...they rarely seem to

But i think once they have quoted then you should tell them yes or no
