Onto my third one now. First 2 no bleeding at all for 10 years, third one in Jan and bled on and off, light and heavy until June. Nothing since then - fingers crossed, whistling and looking away....Wishing you luck

I had one put in in mid March, not long before you OP. Three months of basically constant bleeding, though lighter than the bloodbaths I had before. Now I'm down to about 50% of the time, though it's completely unpredictable, which means I need protection all the time. It's crap but I'm trying to hold out until September before I complain, when I can say it's been six months. (Tho if it was possible to get gp appointments around here I'd probably have gone already...) But I don't want my heavy periods back either, so can't win. And yes to the contraception working by making you utterly uninterested and unexcited by the prospect of anything in the bedroom area! Hmm

I bled daily for over 6 months (the time they said to give it to settle.) This followed on from bleeding that had already lasted 6 months. I removed it myself. Didn’t suit me at all. Now awaiting an ablation.

zgaze · 03/08/2018 08:10

I had it and bled every day for 13 months! A constant heavy dark brown discharge, it was gross. I also got fat and lazy, not like me at all. I had no urge to do anything. The GP kept telling me it would settle and to give it another couple of months, in the end I had to go in and insist I wanted it removed. I hate the hard sell they give you on it. I know it’s great for a lot of people but it didn’t work at all for me.

DomesticAnarchist · 03/08/2018 08:49

Just looked back at my app to see I had constant light bleeding/spotting for around 6 months, then several months of irregular spotting/light periods. It's now settled and I have regular but very light periods.

I'm glad I stuck it out, I'm happy with this and will now stick with the Mirena as long as I can.

Give it a bit longer, OP. Though I recommend a mooncup or similar to get through this bit

DomesticAnarchist · 03/08/2018 08:52

@Gojira I bled for a year with the implant before I gave up with it. I was worried that the Mirena would have the same effect but it's been much better all round, thank fully!

I love the Mirena, I wish I'd been brave enough to try it 20 years ago!

Seasawride · 03/08/2018 08:53

Op I had exactly the same and for the same reasons. If you can hang In there it took me 8 months and then I stopped bleeding. Never looked back since and that’s now 4 years period free.

It is amazing.

Dumbledora · 03/08/2018 08:55

I've had the Mirena twice.
First time it was great, periods completely stopped, and no problems whatsoever.
Second time I bled constantly, sometimes light but sometimes really heavy. It felt like I had constant pmt. After a few months during a particularly heavy bleed it came out - spontaneous expulsion according to my GP.
DH then went for the snip.

NeegansWife · 03/08/2018 09:03

It never ceases to amaze me how the medical profession downplay continuous bleeding like this and expect women just to put up with it like its nothing more inconvenient than waiting for a pimple to go from your chin.

Cazz10 · 03/08/2018 22:05

Thanks so much for your replies ladies some has left me hopefully and some have left me thinking what if I'm one of the ones that will have to end up getting it out. The fact that scares me is after it calming down that it can start all up again pure pink fresh blood as in today I had a good bit of fresh blood could this signal there's something wrong if blood is pure fresh after it been brown. Surely if it moved id be in pain? I dunno but I really am getting fed up of it I just dunno where I stand anymore with it with all this bleeding x

Hi op. I commented earlier but I just came back to say I removed mine myself Wednesday evening. It was awful but I felt a MILLION times better almost immediately x

Cazz10 · 01/09/2018 12:36

Wow how did u manage to remove it? Does the bleeding get worse for a while once its out

OP posts:
justilou1 · 01/09/2018 12:48

I bled non-stop for 6.5 months then they took it out. It didn’t work for me, but it HAS worked for most of my friends.

Cazz10 · 01/09/2018 12:50

@justilou the bleeding is really annoying isn't it ..some days now mind seems as if its stopping but returns again as soon as

Whyohsky · 01/09/2018 13:35

Same here, horrendous 9 months. Get it out!

rosie39forever · 01/09/2018 13:59

Bled for 6 months gradually reduced, now nothing for over 2 years bloody awesome compared to debilitating periods will definitely have another, give it a it longer if you can.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 01/09/2018 14:04

Glad you are feeling better the dark passenger and awful that you had to resort to removing it yourself.

Agree with Neeganswife that the amount of pain / discomfort / infections / bleeding and so on we are expected to just put up with is ludicrous.

TheHollowLeggedGoat · 01/09/2018 14:08

I bled daily for six months and then just as i lost patience and was about to make an appointment to get it taken out, the bleeding stopped and I haven't had anything at all since (this was 6 years ago now- and I'm onto my 2nd Mirena!)

MrsPatrickDempsey · 01/09/2018 15:27

Another one who bled on ad off for 6 months then nothing

picklemepopcorn · 01/09/2018 15:47

Get it checked. I bled for ages, got fed up and went to have it taken out- it was practically falling out already apparently.
