...to ask for your help in locating a village in Surrey/Sussex I once drove through?

This is a bit bonkers but I’ve seen the amazing things Mumsnetters can do so here you go...

About 5 years ago DH and I went to a wedding in Arundel and on the drive from Wimbledon area to Sussex, we passed through about 3 GORGEOUS villages. They had lovely village greens, rustic pubs, chocolate box cottages etc.

My DH and I are getting a night free of children soon and I would love to book a night in a nice inn in one of these villages.

Is there anyway you can help me work out which villages these might have been?

I wasn’t a driver then so I paid no attention to the route so can’t accurately retrace the journey looking on a map.

5 YEARS I’ve been thinking about these villages!! Blush

@NorburtTheDragon Crawley 🤣🤣😂

Triflingjelly · 08/06/2018 15:20

I know I come across as a member of the Lurgashall marketing board. I'm really not but I do enjoy watching their cricket team playing on the green from seats outside the Noah's Ark, drinking a cheeky pinot. 🏏🍷

Merryoldgoat · 08/06/2018 15:37

I need to book up urgently. These places are all within 90 minutes of me and sound utterly gorgeous for a weekend break.

I’m getting so excited!

Petworth and Chiddingfold for sure

ForEverlong · 08/06/2018 15:50

I live outside Chiddingfold. It’s very pretty and on a main road that would make sense route wise. There’s some lovely places to eat nearby (white hart at witley for example), a tea shop, some good pubs and lovely places for walks. Also a really great farm shop at Milford (good to wander for an hour). Go for it

OMFG Shock

Where is that OP?

itstimeforanamechange · 08/06/2018 16:34

Cranleigh? Largest village in the UK I think? And when I put in Wimbledon to Arundel into Google and changed it to a cycle route to get a more scenic route it was bang on it. You might have gone through Bramley too.

Mildura · 08/06/2018 16:47

*OMFG shock

Where is that OP?*

Lurgashall

Merryoldgoat · 08/06/2018 16:49

@IsabelleSE19

It’s in Lurgashall - near Petworth. Unbelievable isn’t it? I don’t think my 3 bed end terrace will fetch enough for a move some how...

@itstimeforanamechange

I’ll look at Cranleigh although I think I’d have remembered that name.

SluttyButty · 08/06/2018 16:56

😂😂😂 at whoever said Crawley.

Buteo · 08/06/2018 16:58

I was thinking Wisborough Green too? Village green, old church, duckpond, pubs etc.

Merryoldgoat · 08/06/2018 17:09

@Buteo

Wisborough Green looks gorgeous!

LakieLady · 08/06/2018 17:13

I was going to say Amberley or Wisborough Green.

Wisborough Green has a lovely village green, with a round pond overlooked by a lovely old barn, and a pretty church.

Amberley has a nice pub with fantastic views and an interesting open air museum full of old shops.

Bekabeech · 08/06/2018 17:15

Lovely house and about the right price.
The villages in that area often have greens with Cricket on Saturdays or Sundays - and lots of male cyclists in Lycra.

Mildura · 08/06/2018 17:19

Lurgashall has a superb pub for anyone who finds themselves in that area:

UghAgh · 08/06/2018 17:22

Hah, I love how the photographer of the house has used a wide-angle camera for the photographs..... I don’t think that was necessary. 😏

BishopBrennansArse · 08/06/2018 17:23

Kirdford? Jodie Kidd owns the pub now.
Wosborough Green - I recommend The Cricketers for food
Plaistow?

Oblomov18 · 08/06/2018 18:49

Who lives in a house like this..... Lloyd grossman.

Find the secret village - aka Poirot/morse/Juliet bravo.

This is tres exciting OP! Grin

Oblomov18 · 08/06/2018 18:50

FFS whatever you do. Promise us you will give us an update! Smile

Merryoldgoat · 08/06/2018 21:12

DH has just got back from work and I’ve told him how clever you all are! We’re going to look at Chiddingford first and then Lurgashall - either way we need to coincide with some cricket!

I can’t bloody wait!
