Aibu to think why free flowing is not different from just wetting yourself

So came across a link on you tube about free flowing women who refuse to wear sanitary products

Now periods are natural and are not disgusting in the same way having a wee is not disgusting and is natural bodily function

But weeing yourself as a adult and not using a loo would be
Unless your disabled or ill Confused

How can you work this I am not even sure how hygienic it is

Or am I missing something

I free bleed on my lighter days. It doesn’t go through my clothes. I far prefer it to excess use of sanitary products.

But why would you film your leak and carry on doing yoga

Because periods happen to a huge number of people. Leaks shouldn’t be seen as taboo or embarrassing.

Magicpaintbrush · 08/06/2018 13:05

What an efficient way to ruin your leggings.

Skyejuly · 08/06/2018 13:27

Definitely more comfortable to do yoga with no bulky product.

Mousefunky · 08/06/2018 14:00

In the days before sanitary protection or even before people were shoving socks or old rags in their pants, poor women did freeflow but were also generally malnourished and often pregnant so won’t have had many periods.

Free flowing obviously isn’t realistic in the 21st century. I know some women do it on the last light day and I have before actually but not on the heavy days, no way.

LemonysSnicket · 08/06/2018 14:05

I don't bleed very heavily at all so it just means it gets a bit on my pants. Like slightly heavy spotting. No drips, wipes or blood flowing down legs etc.

HungerOfThePine · 08/06/2018 14:06

I think I probably come under the free flow category as my periods are so light and gone pretty much as soon as they appear so no need for sanitary products imo, totally different case if it's heavy and running down your leg if I had I would probably use reusable sanitary stuff as disposable is vile for me.

Umm if you actually had proper flooding - you would use whatever and as much of it as possible. I've never quite got to the tampon + pad point, but have felt tempted. And certainly had had to change several layers of clothes because I "stood up".
Free flowing would wreck the whole house!

melonscoffer · 08/06/2018 14:21

I'm aware that pp are saying this is not a thing.
However this is my opinion on anyone who free flows.

Why are we lowering our stanards instead of being pleased that we are the fortunate ones.
Why would we lucky women who have access to sanitary products stop using them.
It won't help the women who have no access.
These woman would think we are crazy to stop using a product that,if only they had access to, would change their life r.e. periods.

Does anyone know if the women in developing countries know what's available in other countries, the different sanitary products?
Are they aware of what we use and what they are missing or are they completely in the dark?

Because my periods are so fucking miserable for 2/3 days that by then I'm so over changing san pro hourly that I'm sore, uncomfortable and prefer to not use anything.

I'm not "lowering my standards"; I'm managing my periods in the best way for me.

We good for fuck the rest of us what if I decided I could be arsed to go to the toilet I have a overactive bladder and am usually over going to the toilet 100 times a day Confused

I think someone is pulling your leg

Gottokondo · 08/06/2018 15:56

*the video of the yoga woman made me laugh.

If I get up when I have my period and my tampon is full, I have RIVER of blood down my legs before I get to the loo.
If I was doing that yoga video, the whole of the legs of outfit would be stained.

I actually do FLOW when on my period, proper blood running down my legs flow.

All this crap about a few wipes when you go to the loo just makes me* I ma like that on day 5 or 6 of lucky

Yeah, me as well. Waking up on the second day always starts with a dash to the loo, a shower to get the blood off of me (back to front and down my legs from standing up), back to the bed to take the double towels off that I leaked on and check that it didn't leak through to the mattress. I use the biggest tampon + those big night pads but I just have a heavy flow.
