to want to try on my maternity clothes?

I spent two hours yesterday wandering around Birmingham trying to find some maternity clothes to try on. Every shop I went in to told me they only sell them online. Fair enough, there's not a huge demand for them, but both pairs of maternity jeans I've bought I've had to send back as they don't fit me.

Where on earth can I buy maternity clothes that I can actually try on? Even my local supermarkets don't have them. Everything is online.

Any ideas?

@LisaLotta H&M maternity isn't that cheap, its about the same as mothercare.

Why do you need a whole wardrobe? Doesn't all need to be maternity, just buy nornal clothes a couple of sizes up. I didn't need actual maternity tops until 7 months but i was in maternity jeans from 3 months

New look in Wolverhampton had a small maternity section last time I checked (about six months ago)

Treaclepie19 · 08/06/2018 11:13

Wolverhampton New Look have always had a maternity section. I haven't been for a few months but would expect they still do. There's also the H&M So might be worth a look.

Oops sorry, cross post!

Note to self, read the full thread!

@Lazypuppy I work in quite a snarl environment and wear a suit and shirt to work. If I buy shirts or blouses sizes bigger they just don't look good! I need one for each day and a couple of pairs of smart trousers really. Of course casual stuff I can buy baggy tops from primark etc but for work I need things that fit properly.

If you're north Birmingham, then Ventura park in Tamworth is worth a visit. The H&M and new look there have maternity sections and there is also a mothercare with a decent size maternity dept.

For south brum, Solihull is better - again H&M and jojomamanbebe. Don't think the new look there stocks maternity though.

BuntyII · 08/06/2018 11:57

Dorothy Perkins had maternity clothes in 2 years ago.

FannyWincham · 08/06/2018 12:16

Also in Solihull - you could order stuff into JL to try on and then return immediately if it isn’t right. They don’t have a maternity section in store but there’s a lot of Isabelle Oliver, Séraphine and Mamalicious on their website.

moomoo85 · 08/06/2018 12:16

It is really frustrating. It has got so much worse than when I had my son 4 years ago.

I would suggest that even if you aren't able to buy things from mothercare and jojo go and have a look and try some bits on and find what suits you which should be able to guide you when buying things online (or even findings similar styles from those brands on ebay).

Mothercare came up trumps for me, and despite them being around £8 more expensive than other shops they were BY FAR the most comfy. New look jeans were hideous.

Try asda for work clothing, order click and collect and you can return any that don't fit. I think that's the cheapest option for things like black pants/skirts and shirts. X

I ended up buying loads online from Mamalicious

cupcakesandglitter · 08/06/2018 12:39

Could you try the big Matalan just past Aston Uni? I know they sell maternity clothes, just not sure if they have them in that store?

theruffles · 08/06/2018 13:03

I had this problem too and have ended up ordering things from ASOS online and eBay.

Mothercare at Merry Hill has a small section (though I think it's a bit useless for work wear as it seemed to be all stripy t-shirts, maxi dresses and gym clothes). I ended up buying a larger size in a few things from places like H&M and Primark or picking dresses with a bit of stretch. There is a Jojo Maman Bebe in Worcester but it's not the cheapest so I've brought a few of their pieces on eBay instead.

Lidl is having a maternity event on Sunday. I bought some last time they had them and they were excellent quality and so cheap!

LisaLotta · 08/06/2018 17:04

I'm going to drive to the big Asda later and if there's nothing there I'll have to try online. Will definitely check out Lidl @SayNoToCarrots thank you!

Asda only available online. I give up!

Check out the New Look website to see what stores stock maternity wear. I travelled to a store that I thought would be too small to stock it, but was glad I did. The range wasn't large but I got a few pairs of maternity jeggings and t-shirts. I then had a good idea of sizing for what to buy online if I needed too.x
