Small car advice

I'm hoping to start driving lessons and get a car soon. I want something small but with 5 doors. It needs to have enough space for 2 hbb for the kids in the back but nothing gargantuan. I was thinking of a polo. Does anyone have any suggestions of anything similar/ better than that?

I love my micra! It’s surprisingly spacious inside, I have one DC in a high backed booster and one in and extended rear facing seat. The boot will also take a phild and teds tandem at a push too. Its easy to park and nippy round town. Quite economical on petrol too. Cost me 4000 4 years ago and has been pretty reliable. On the downside it’s not a good motorway car and doesnt really like going about 60. So deoends what kind of driving you do. Might be worth a test drive?

Corsa here, not had it long enough to comment but we spent a lot of time trying out small cars of all makes before we decided on this one.

Most small cars come in 3 or 5 door variants.

Suggest you go to a car supermarket (e.g. Available car or similar) and look at all the small cars - do you need a bigger boot? Two tall adults in the back? More room in front? Cheaper to run/smaller engine? Reliability?

If you already have the boosters take them along and see if they fit, along with any other bulky stuff you may need. Most places are happy gor you to wander around and have a poke.

Toyota Yaris! Really nifty and reliable cars.

I found this site really helpful for a list of cars by class (city/small/compact etc.), parkers for comparing model variants (checking for air con, parking sensors, cruise control etc.) and honest john for owner reviews and checking for common faults.

I recently got a new little corsa after driving a mum wagon for years, it’s lovely and nippy has Isofix fitting rear camera and sensors

Having driven everything from a zafiira, golf, merc b class to a Ford ka, I’m very happy with it and plan to start my teens of driving in corsa’s in the next couple of years

I have a Hyundai i10. I love it. Would highly recommend one.

I have a honda jazz which I love. We have taken it to France on holiday - Dh and I - and could fit everything in it. I have got a rear facing seat for my gs in the car and you could easily get two hbb in the car.

The new Ford Fiesta is awesome. It's small but feels big if that makes sense?? Great technology with the apple or android play and looks really cool

How small is small? I drive a Ford B-MAX, which is basically a Fiesta but with its arse expanded a bit to turn it into a mini MPV. So it's much smaller than an estate, but so practical with kids.

I have a Corsa - love it. It's also very fuel efficient
