I am not snake-phobic really, but this story freaked me out! Shock

"Jennifer Sutcliffe told local station KIII-TV that her husband was working in the garden when he saw the four-foot (1.25m) rattlesnake and decapitated it.

When he picked up the snake's remains to dispose of them, the head bit him.

A snake's bite reflex can be triggered up to several hours after it has died "

There's worser if you want to know, but its really, really grim. Think 'this is how the zombie apocalypse will start' levels of grim.
Google 'Tom Whipple pigs’ heads article'.

Off to Google now... I don't want to know....I do want to know.....aaargh.

People used to talk about how chickens could run around the farmyard after their heads were cut off. So you could put a headless chicken next to a rattlesnake's detached head and let them fight it out?

UpstartCrow · 09/06/2018 10:59

OMFG yes.
Bring out 'Mike the Headless Chicken' in tiny boxer shorts, we'll be rich beyond our wildest dreams.

SoleBizzz · 09/06/2018 11:01

Yes I knew.

Ginkypig · 09/06/2018 11:36

It's different from when they are alive though, there is no brain function telling it to defend or hunt it's just a muscle reaction.

gigi556 · 09/06/2018 12:40

OMG. I grew up in rattlesnake country and did not know this!!!!

StealthPolarBear · 09/06/2018 12:52

Fascinating creatures!

From that link I ended up reading this article too

We were camping in Tanzania once - campsite had snakes in big glass tanks and one of them escaped in the night. I'm not sure which one but we didn't sleep well that night!

I knew this but I absolutely and utterly hate snakes. Poisonous or not, I don't care. I think they're absolutely repulsive.
