To feel gross about period flood

happysnappysandwich · 06/06/2018 22:16

I never even knew that actually happened. Leaked all over a meeting room chair during a conference. Managed to leave during meeting (thank goodness for black trousers) and engineered it so I was the last one in the room so I could clean up the mess. I'm mortified. Think a colleague may have noticed too 🙄.
Please tell me I am not the only one this has happened to, I feel awful

Poor you, style it out- at least you tried to clean it up and not just leave it!
If it makes you feel better I once flooded all over a stool in biology class as a 15 year old... teenagers were much less forgiving than I would expect adult colleagues to be!

wormery · 06/06/2018 22:20

This happened to me on a bus, luckily I was sat right at the back and also had dark trousers on. I was mortified.

SausageEggAndChips · 06/06/2018 22:21

This happened to me in the cinema 😱

RideSallyRide76 · 06/06/2018 22:23

Oh God me too, on a course so no chance to clean the chair, I just had to leave it Blushpoor you it's horrible isn't it? Wine

PomBearWithoutHerOFRS · 06/06/2018 22:23

It happened to me on my SIL's pristine white brand new couch, while the whole family, including DH's nephews were there. I was beyond mortified.

AsTheMilesTheyDisappear · 06/06/2018 22:25

It happened to me too.

agnurse · 06/06/2018 22:25

This happened to me once when I was teaching a class! (One of my students, who is female fortunately, pointed it out to me.) I had to tie my jacket around my waist so my dress was hidden and then go home after class to change!

It's quite likely your colleague is knowledgeable about periods. (Obviously, the vast majority of women would be, and in this day and age I expect that many men are knowledgeable, too.) I don't think there should be a huge issue.

If you're always having very heavy periods, you might want to check with your provider because it can be an indication of a health issue. If there's nothing wrong and/or it's just an occasional thing, you might like to try using adult incontinence briefs on your heavy days. I have done this before and I understand that I'm not the only one who does. They're actually very comfortable and there's no mess.

Ummmmgogo · 06/06/2018 22:27

don't give it another thought op. we all have periods nothing to be embarrassed about at all x

MarieMorgan · 06/06/2018 22:27

This happened to me when walking with colleagues to an off site meeting. Literally made red puddle on floor! One of my colleagues went to buy me a change of underwear while I hid in a public loo. Not one of my best days!

Windydayz · 06/06/2018 22:27

Oh this is mortifying. This happened to my colleague and she told me the week after. I said to her she could have confided on me and i could have helped her to get cleaning stuff/walk behind her/call cleaner for her.... Anything so i could help her feel a little less embarrassed. I really felt bad for her because ive been there.

Waddlelikeapenguin · 06/06/2018 22:28

Flowers you poor thing but try to think of it as if you had been sick or had a nosebleed - it's a natural but uncontrollable biological function.

RedLily84 · 06/06/2018 22:29

This happened to me during an interview. On a grey chair. I had dark clothes on and my skirt had ridden up slightly at the back.

Honestly when he went to get the next interviewer I swapped the chairs and grabbed one of their A4 paper pads that I sat on! Then kind of picked it up as we all left the room together! Mortified. Didn’t get the job!

DitheringBlidiot · 06/06/2018 22:32

This happened to me in a pub, I was wearing a light denim skirt. Could have cried.

SexyManatee · 06/06/2018 22:32

PomBear - who the fuck gets a white sofa? If it wasn't your blood I would have been someone else's bodily fluids. The end that most often touches a sofa is the end that produces them!

OP, don't worry. You handled it bloody well and I reckon you'd know by now if you didn't get away with it.

UpstartCrow · 06/06/2018 22:33

I bled all over a friend's sofa, they were nice about it at the time but pretty much ghosted me after Blush
Its so weird how its more humiliating than a nose bleed.

codenameduchess · 06/06/2018 22:33

It happened to me in a meeting room while on a conference call with 4 team members. I coughed and it exploded🙈
Very, very awkward clean up while the call continued and the 2 guys there tried not to vomit.

It's also happened another time all over a friend's bathmat when staying over... Had to replace the set 😳

SexyManatee · 06/06/2018 22:33

I can't believe I just typed "bloody well" ^

Sorry OP, I promise it was an accident Blush

2014mum · 06/06/2018 22:36

This happened to me, on oxford street London whilst wearing white jeans! I had nothing to cover it with and had to run into H&M and buy a skirt, I felt like all eyes were on me that day - it’s mortifying but you’re not alone!

liz70 · 06/06/2018 22:37

It happens. It's part of being female. My mum as a teenager rode her bike out to North Wales one day, got back and was told she had leaked all over her pale coloured jeans. I once flooded in the night in student accommodation - soaked through a super plus tampon, liner, my pants, the bed sheet, and left a humongous stain on the ancient ticking mattress. It's nothing to be ashamed of. Flowers

Sparklesocks · 06/06/2018 22:39

Oh it’s horrible when it happens op, but pretty much every woman has a period horror story so try to not let it get you down. Sounds like the damage was minimal and all will be ok Flowers

userofthiswebsite · 06/06/2018 22:41

If you weren't already I suggest you get into the habit of wearing liners. I always wear them with the cup and previously always wore them with tampons. Body is weird and you can't rely on it to act the way it should so always best to have 'back-up'.

Italwaysworksitselfout · 06/06/2018 22:41

Yup in a restaurant. As I stood up there was an uncontrollable flood. It was at that point I realised I could not live like this any more and I am now waiting for a hysterectomy. It happens to 1000s of women but it doesn't make it any less horrifying Flowers

RomaineCalm · 06/06/2018 22:43

Its so weird how its more humiliating than a nose bleed.

I agree. I'm a grown up, I know how bodies work and I expect that my colleagues (both male and female) do too. But I was mortified when I had an 'explosion' at work and had to go and buy another dress at lunchtime. It would have been less embarrassing to throw up across the photocopier. Confused

Notsureabc · 06/06/2018 22:46

This happened to me in year six😭 everyone said I pooed myself Hmm

lljkk · 06/06/2018 22:49

Happened to colleague at a work meeting.
It was bonding I thought she was too old for periods and human moment.
I'm sure I read a story here about someone speaking at a conf. with obvious blood running down her legs. She kind of entered a "fuck it" zone & got admiration by some for it, too.
