to be annoyed about scaffolding overhanging our fence?

We have houses being built next door. They've put scaffolding up, but one big pole sticks in to our garden by about 2 foot. Right over our bins and low enough for DP to bang his head on. AIBU to be a bit annoyed that they didn't just run it by us first and now we have this giant pole in our garden for 6-8 weeks? (Our guess based on how long the scaffolding was on the other houses). We can avoid the pole of course, but it's IMO super cheeky to just shove it up without warning! Hmm. AIBU?

Have you actually spoken to anyone on site?

NewIdeasToday · 05/06/2018 21:08

Have you asked the builders to move it?

oakthorn · 05/06/2018 21:09

It's also against every health and safety rule going. Speak to the site manager.

HaloWings · 05/06/2018 21:13

No I've literally just discovered it after going to put the bins out. Wanted to know if I was being reasonable before I went over and had words...

At least they could put a bit of foam on it. Sounds like cheeky scaffolders wanting to use an oversized pole that was to hand.

HaloWings · 05/06/2018 21:18

I just feel as though if I go over and talk to them they'll laugh at me. WIBU to saw the end off? Grin

Definitely talk to them

llangennith · 05/06/2018 21:20

Ring the council and see if they have any rules they can enforce.

NewIdeasToday · 05/06/2018 21:43

Why do you need to phone the Council?

Just go and speak to the builders and tell them you didn’t Agee to this and it’s not safe (what if they drop something into your garden?). Then tell them it needs to be moved by Thursday morning.

Knittedfairies · 05/06/2018 21:55

My husband gashed his head on scaffolding such as you describe. Blood everywhere.... Our NDN (his extension scaffolding) was mortified. Ask the builders what they are going to do to make it safe.

bellabasset · 06/06/2018 10:33

I remember reading about a family whose house was damaged by renovation and extension work going on at the adjoining terraced property. Builders were able to erect scaffolding without consultation. Assume it's not a terrace build though here

Bloody cheeky in your situation but check with LA first. Then speak to builders.

bellabasset · 06/06/2018 10:34

PS You forget the C.F. in your title

Strugglingtodomybest · 06/06/2018 10:34

Just tape some foam of bubblewrap on it, it's not the end of the world.

DGRossetti · 06/06/2018 10:39

Isn't this trespass ? Like overhanging branches ?

Got an angle grinder ?

BarbarianMum · 06/06/2018 10:40

YANBU we will need something similar from our neighbours this summer. Difference is, we're going to talk to them first (and will thank them with nice wine when done).
