Overnight nursery trip?

My grandson is two and a half and lives in Spain. I was talking to my son last night and he told me the nursery he attends are taking the children to a farm for an overnight stay. Am I being unreasonable to think that he's just too young? And to wonder how many helpers there will have to be for a class of under threes? My son seems quite happy with the idea but it fills me with alarm. Am I just being an overprotective granny (and if I say anything further, God forbid, an interfering MIL)?

Why is he too young to be with adults he knows well?

Would he be too young to stay over with you also?

We lived in Spain before moving to Australia and it is absolutely normal to go to overnight stays from very early age. One night when they are tiny and moving up to two nights until Y5 when my DS1 went for a week in Sicily.

Arbrighton, I was joking! No way would I be volunterring. And no, he has never spent the night with me or anyone else except his parents. Interesting to hear this kind of trip is quite common for nursery age kids elsewhere.

Fascinating edge of grannyphobia to some posts......

Provided the parents are happy it's fine. I think it's good for pre-schoolers to spend the odd night away if possible. Nice for mum and dad too!

Op you should know nans/grans on mumsnet are always interfering old boots! Even if some of us are younger than lots of the older mums in RL. Wink

You wait someone will be on soon asking if you have thought you might have early stage altzimers Grin

I never heard this about Spain etc how fascinating. I think it sounds alien and far too young but if it’s the norm there and the parents are happy then great.

Could it catch on here you think? Wink if so nursery workers should expect a pay rise

Ohmydave I think lots of parents would quite like it if overnight nurseries caught on, shift workers especially those who may only need one or 2 nights a month care www.ft.com/content/af1f1bae-a62b-11e4-9bd3-00144feab7de there aren't that many places that offer it in the UK though.
