2 and a half? Grin I wouldn't!

Tina851 · 05/06/2018 18:28

I think most of the children who end up in A&E are there because of trampolines

I would wait until he was at least 48 months.

The retina in children under 5 can become unattached as it’s not yet fully formed. Jumping on a trampoline can cause this.

ALongHardWinter · 05/06/2018 18:34

Louise That was something I didn't know! Shock

LIZS · 05/06/2018 18:41

Ds had a small one with handle as a toddler but no way would I get a big one.

purpleme12 · 05/06/2018 18:43

We got ours one when she was 2. It's not a massive one it's one meant for up to 7 years. Nothing bad happened yet

Risk is good and necessary, but most medics agree that trampolines are not appropriate for under 6's. Bones/bodies not ready for them, put simply.

m0therofdragons · 05/06/2018 18:44

Our emergency department doctors actually have a leaflet with instructions for safe trampoline use as they see so many injuries! I'm getting dtds one for their 7th birthday but no way would I have had one any earlier. They've been on them at friends houses but I've watched like a hawk. Imo once they're school age when they are better at following instructions and less prone to dislocations is best.

Op Personally I wouldn't at that age, accident waiting to happen

PremierNaps · 05/06/2018 18:57

At 2 and a half you can get small trampolines with handles on that they can hold. That would be fine but bigger ones are just accidents waiting to happen.

mustbemad17 · 05/06/2018 19:02

DD has had a trampoline for ages 🙈 we bought one that is really low to the floor, no netting (everyone i know that has had accidents has become trapped between the net & the trampoline as opposed to falling off). She only uses it under supervision, never had a problem.

Cloudly · 05/06/2018 19:02

The thing is the school he is going to be starting have a trampoline we only realised he likes it as he went on it straight onto it. My childminder has one so he's been going on there. I did as the school are they supervised being on their that young they said yes. I had been thinking of purchasing a toddler trampoline. Will wait for few years now.
Thank you all for you advice.

I agree about having a small one with handle, my son had one and loved it.
Are those safety nets useless then?

I saw a trampoline once that had been put in a hole in the garden so it was level with the ground, which I thought was a good idea.

I would love an inground trampoline. Need our own garden first haha.

I personally won't have a net. I know more kids with broken arms/wrists because of nets than actually falling off the trampoline.

ChikiTIKI · 05/06/2018 19:16

I used to do a lot of trampolining and gymnastics, doing competitions etc and I don't think the safety nets seem that good. Once you've been trampolining for a while you know how to fall and those poles and nets give you less time to fall, iyswim. I would feel much safer without one.

Can you send your child to some lessons? Clubs often do summer courses.

Also I would suggest you think about having a rule of one person at a time on the trampoline. It's really not safe aging multiple people on at once. That will be how most children get hurt I bet.

Just spoke with hubby we are not purchasing one for now. Think I will look into the trampoline groups sounds like a good idea xx
