To want to kick MIL a bit

Not hard, but maybe in the shins, just for saying '‘I’m not even going to ask you if you need anything for the baby until it’s born, in case anything goes wrong’

I am 38 weeks pregnant. It's been a shitty old slog and I've been ill and anxious throughout. I'm having a c section next week.

I really didn't need to hear that.

This is DC2 btw, so we're semi-pros at this stuff already!

Is she normally this thoughtless? Maybe she didn't mean to offend and might mortified to know she offended you.

Old school is often passed down, it is beliefs - a state of mind, more than just age. I am 41 and very old school about parenting and certain things.

gnushoes · 05/06/2018 11:07

I think there's a school of thought that it's tempting fate to buy baby stuff before the baby has arrived safely and she means it in that way. It's maybe not the most tactful thing to say to you - but these attitudes are ingrained from the days when childbirth was hugely risky for everyone concerned.

jamoncrumpets · 05/06/2018 11:09

I think she might just be a bit thick tbh. Maybe I should just expect a bit less from her, tactwise, in future.

KitXi - rofl

Another vote for KitXi's response. Genius Grin

Do you think she's just a bit gormless? Obviously she could have just said "once the baby's here we'll see what you need"

jamoncrumpets · 05/06/2018 11:17

Yep, gormless. Well, no real harm done I guess. It's a good job I have a reasonably dark sense of humour, I guess.

Yes give her a good kick up the arse. You might kick some sense into her. Grin

🤣😂 tactless mare! Thank god you can find the humour in it (just about).

I’m in my 40’s and I don’t buy anything for other people’s babies until they’re born, unless I’m invited to a baby shower and then I do because there’s just no tactful way to say I feel it’s ‘bad luck’ to buy gifts before the baby is here. Logically I know the way I feel is utter tripe, but there’s still that niggle, so I don’t do it.

I’m slightly baffled that you’ve known her long enough for this to be DC2 and your still surprised by her big mouth 😂🤣

Please update when you’ve had DC2 😊
(Besides, we need to know what other shin kicking required shite she’s said!)
