To be annoyed at next door throwing things at my dog?

So not lived here long and next door have looked down their nose at us from day 1 (single parent, kids with SEN). They don't talk to me they just walk straight past even if I try and make conversation.

Anyway, they refuse to maintain anything on the boarder of their property , we have a new fence on the side that belongs to my landlord but the other side has a knee height wall that's falling apart (constant bricks falling into my garden). Anyway I have a puppy who is 6 months and is very friendly but I must admit she is rather yappy, mainly because we are surrounded by cats and foxes etc. Anyway so next door were out in their garden, one using the lawn mower, the other using the strimmer - so pretty noisy which is fine but it did set my pup off. As soon as she started barking I called her in which next door would have heard although she didn't come immediately but I was clearly on the case and not leaving her disturbing them. Next door yelled shut up at her and threw something at her/the boundary. I haven't been out to see what it was as pup came in and I just shut the door. But AIBU to be a bit pissed off? I do totally understand that dogs barking can be annoying but we are talking 20 seconds and over 2 sets of garden power tools so they were obviously making more noise than her anyway (which would never bother me but just pointing out that it's not like they were quietly relaxing in the garden.

Id go ape if someone did that to my dog. Yanbu

If it has come over my side then I will be throwing it back over. I do wonder if maybe she is scared of her but she isn't growling or being unfriendly - she is a puppy who is still learning not to be so noisy - she literally just wants to say Hello - she loves everybody

What nasty people. I'd go over and confront them. Doesn't sound like you're ever going to be best friends with them anyway.

Other people's pets can be annoying yes but if you have a problem you speak to the owner you don't take it out on the animal.

FaFoutis · 04/06/2018 19:43

Are you sure they have only endured 20 seconds of yapping? Has it been 6 months of yapping?

TobysToblerone · 04/06/2018 19:43

YANBU re. throwing things at the dog but you need to sort out a better boundary if there really is just a knee high wall between where you let your dog out & their garden

NoNamesLeft86 · 04/06/2018 19:45

I was half expecting to be told I was being unreasonable because she was barking Blush so I'm glad you guys understand. I am not really one for confrontation and tbh it's probably just going to make them worse but if she ever moans about the noise I will bring it up

Yappy dogs are annoying. My first thought on reading your thread title was “what did the dog do?”.
Focus on controlling your dog and training it.

NoNamesLeft86 · 04/06/2018 19:47

Tobys- she only goes in my garden, not into next door.

Zintox we are working on it and if she barks she has to come in

You need to put a higher fence on your side of her boundary, as long as it doesn't encroach on your NDN land, that would solve the barking at them/them throwing things issue.
Bamboo or willow screening would work and be much cheaper than proper fencing, but would not be see-through.

lastnightidreamtofpotatoes · 04/06/2018 19:51

I must admit she is yappy

OP what are you doing to minimise this and get the puppy trained? Living next to a yappy dog can be hell. Don't agree with throwing things (what was it?) but they may be at the end of their tether.

You also say that they have had it against you from day 1 because you are a single parent with a child with SEN. How would they have known that from day 1? I do think there is more to the story.

Ok so I don't know exactly what day she decided to dislike us or if she is just rude to everybody. They have never spoken to me, I don't even know their names. I pass them regularly outside and have tried to make conversation several times and just get a snotty look.

I had a handy man come round after a couple of weeks to look at options for fencing off the boundary and we went together, along with my 3 year old to go and speak to her and see what she would be happy with, and if we could maybe repair the wall and add trellis or something, to make a proper boarder etc and she was extremely rude and told us no and we were not to touch their wall or put anything up against it even if it was on my side and was very snotty. Even the handy man was shocked at how rude she was - I was offering to pay for her side of the fence and giving her options etc.

She has lots of plants her side of the wall so it hides all the broken crappy bricks and they all fall into my garden rather than hers (it's meant to be higher and is in a few places but has mostly fallen down and may as well not exist really.

I did arrange my garden, the kids playhouse etc in a way that as much as possible is creating a barrier between her garden and mine.

Possibly irrelevant but not sure - we also both have a "right of way" through our gardens so She is end of Terrace and the only one with side acccess and then there is access through our gardens to all the mid Terrace houses.

If they have a problem with you, then they should address you,not throw things at your puppy.
Please check what they have thrown isn't dangerous to your pup or your children.

NoNamesLeft86 · 04/06/2018 20:45

I wish they would gib. They seem like a very odd couple tbh
