To want a hair removal method that actually works?!

Posting here for traffic!

I like to swim but I don't like going if I haven't sorted out the dreaded bikini line, and all I want is an effective bikini-line removal method that doesn't involve me going to get waxed every 3-4 weeks! (This is mainly because I don't want to wait the inevitable period in between waxes which means staying hairy for a couple of weeks... Envy)

Can anyone recommend any instant hair removal that actually works? Shaving is no good, can still see the root of the hair and I've never found a hair removal cream that works. Anyone had laser hair removal/is it any good/any negatives? Never tried epilating but if anyone has used it is there a particular brand to go for?

Laser hair removal worked really well for me. I do have fairly dark hair.

DollyPartonsBeard · 04/06/2018 12:00

Neither instant nor cheap but the Philips Lumea has mostly got rid of my thigh beard. I've gone from full Hawridge to maybe seven or eight hairs remaining on upper thigh. I am pale skinned and dark haired though, so ideal courting for it.

DollyPartonsBeard · 04/06/2018 12:01

Hawridge?? FULL HAGRID lol 😂

MotherofKitties · 04/06/2018 12:01

How many sessions did you need to have if you don't mind me asking? There's a few places locally that offer it but I don't know anyone who has openly said they've had it so wondering if you'd need just one session or a whole course ...?

Thigh beard!! 😂 Never heard of that one before! Love it! Grin

I've literally just booked in for laser hair removal this week. Got a deal for 6 sessions. I have dark hair so hoping it will work.

NoGoodAtHousework · 04/06/2018 12:07

I'm having laser hair removal all over bikini and I'm on 4th session I think, it's definitely making a difference, it isn't instant though. If you're really bothered you will have to shave in between (you have to shave the day before anyway) I have it done very 4 weeks, for growth cycle. Hoping a few more sessions will get me there.

MotherofKitties · 04/06/2018 12:07

The more I read about it the more I'm tempted about laser removal; I have heard some negative reviews on it but majority seem positive and if it's permanent it'll be worth it...!

I had laser about 17 years ago on pits and bikini line. Not touched either since except to pluck the odd individual hair.

Now have Philips lumea and doing arms / legs / tache. It’s working really very well indeed and after 4 treatments I cannot see myself having to do any further waxing / shaving, though will continue with the lumea as not quite hair free yet. I am fair skinned with dark hair which helps with both laser and lumea.

MojoMoon · 04/06/2018 12:11

You do need realistic expectations of laser - it is hair reduction/slowing of growth, not permanent removal.

You will need to continue to have sessions forever to keep it in check - I go once every six months.

Would recommend but you need to be realistic so not disappointed.

Its also not quick- I have eight sessions, four weeks apart in the initial spurt. So will be good for next summer.....

Does laser hair removal hurt?

CharliesSister · 04/06/2018 12:17

Does the Lumea hurt?
I can stand a wax just but it was an expensive routine to have Mrs Brown's stunt double rip out my underarm hair only to get a 2 week long 5 o clock shadow until the next torture date.

NoGoodAtHousework · 04/06/2018 12:20

The best way to describe is a elastic band twang against your skin. It does hurt (to be a realist) but there's no throb or after pain like waxing. It's a millisecond, each 'shot'. I have full Hollywood with it and she adjust the power for very sensitive areas and it takes her no more than half hour including some numbing cream.

MojoMoon · 04/06/2018 12:20

Feels like someone twanging an elastic band against you. So you feel something but I wouldn't say it hurt

Lumea less so as it is less powerful than the ones you get in clinics

ireallyneedtobreath · 04/06/2018 12:20

I had laser treatment to my whole legs, bikini, lower back and armpits about 14 years ago. 6 sessions. I was like an ape. Ive had to have my knees redone and despite 3 lots on my armpits they still grow back. The rest is a dream. Best £3k I've ever spent (it was WAY more expensive back then). Have started a fund for my daughter to get hers done.

Xiong, yes it hurts, but no more than waxing......it just takes longer.

eurochick · 04/06/2018 12:21

Laser feels a bit like having an elastic band twanged against your skin. It's painful but not unbearable. It gave good results for me. More than ten years on and I just get the occasional hair in the areas I had treated.

I've just got a Lumea. I'm a few sessions in and it seems to be slowing hair growth but not stopping me needing to shave. I'm not impressed yet, but I'm hopefully that after some more sessions the results will be better.

Ooogetyooo · 04/06/2018 12:39

I had a course of 8 for bikini line and just go for top ups every 6 months. Dramatic improvement it's so worth it. It does sting a bit but it's over and done very quickly. You need very dark hairs for it to work .

olivesnutsandcheese · 04/06/2018 12:39

I've just got a lumea and so far it's worked really well on pits, arms and bikini line. I think legs will take a bit longer. I'm really really pleased with it. Probably helps that I am dark hair/ fair skinned.

Semster · 04/06/2018 12:44

I haven't had to have topups - had it done years ago.

I had 6 sessions and the hair has completely gone.

MotherofKitties · 04/06/2018 16:43

Thanks all for the replies; I'm going to have a look into this lumea and laser for the long term, never heard of lumea before but sounds promising! Xx

I had IPL and it’s life changing. For those with an upper thigh mullet like mine, it’sthe best!
I got a groupon thing for 6 sessions for about £100( a few years ago), and the salon gave me another 6 for the same amount. I could have got away with just six, but thete were a few hairs right down my thigh that the beauticians kept missing, I don’t think they could quite believe how far down my leg they had to go!

roses2 · 04/06/2018 16:57

I’ve also got a Philips Lumea. I only use it for my chin and underarm but it’s worth every penny.

You can usually get a good deal from Amazon Warehouse. I paid £180 for mine.

CoraPirbright · 04/06/2018 17:05

I had my bikini line lasered about 7 years ago and it was literally the best money I ever spent. I looked like a yeti before but after 6 sessions, now I simply never have to worry about it. Literally no hair there bar a few re-growths for which I have had 2 top-up sessions in the intervening time. I have pale skin and dark hair which is ideal for the lasers apparently. Don’t waste time going to beauty salons as I have been warned that their lasers aren’t as strong and they dont really know what they are doing. You want the full on, medical, nurse-administered, have-to-wear-special-glasses experience. I went to Harley Medical Group.

eurochick · 04/06/2018 17:39

I also went to Harley Medical Group.

fishybits · 04/06/2018 17:48

I ended up buying a swimsuit with short "legs" if that makes sense. very very hirsute and lazy!
