DS, 2.5 has a small, round lump under the skin (e.g. not visible)at the base of his neck, where his shoulders meet. It's very round, about the size of a ball on a tongue stud or belly bar/ ball bearing, maybe a bit smaller. Causes no pain and is not visible on the surface, but you feel it when rubbing suncream in. My mum noticed it first and now nursery have mentioned it (so definitely odd and not bone etc). It hasn't grown.

Yes - but I wouldn’t be trying to get an emergency appt for it if it’s not bothering him.

lovemyhorsesxo · 03/06/2018 21:28

Is is soft and moveable

veggifriedbreakfast · 03/06/2018 21:29

I'm of the sort of "wait home and it'll go" but on this I'd be phoning as soon as it opened to be seen right away

feeona123 · 03/06/2018 21:29

I’ve just been to the docs last week with this and was told it was a cyst. I did wait 3 weeks first to see if it went away though. Best get it looked at x

snowpony · 03/06/2018 21:30

OMG, my son (recently 2) has exactly the same thing. Found it this weekend running suncream in as well - am contemplating doctors but DH thinks I’m over reacting!

Desmondo2016 · 03/06/2018 21:34

No after four kids and 40 years with my own peculiarities, most lumps, bumps, rashes and discharges have ceased to interest me!

Wellthisunexpected · 03/06/2018 21:35

@lovemyhorsesxo yes, I think so. How soft do you mean? I was thinking a cyst (which IMO doesn't need a GP).

Sounds exactly like my DS - his is a sebaceous cyst. I took him the the GP a couple of times because he was complaining that it hurt him, and they sent him to the hospital to have it confirmed. The GP did want to get it removed, but when they referred to dermatology the application was declined for funding as it didn’t meet certain criteria (I.e. as it was sebaceous it was benign and didn’t need removing)

lovemyhorsesxo · 03/06/2018 21:38

It’s either a small cyst or just lymph nodes still a bit swollen has he had cold recently

Gizlotsmum · 03/06/2018 21:38

I’d take him. They won’t care if it is nothing.

Mrsmadevans · 03/06/2018 21:38

Sound like an enlarged Lymph node , take him and get it checked out though. I think they are quite usual. I have 2 friends DC who had this and they were terribly worried too they were fine btw. Good luck OP

Carycach100 · 03/06/2018 21:39

Yes i would take them

MrTrebus · 03/06/2018 22:00

It's really common for kids of this age to have fatty lumps. Google it. But i would still see the GP but honestly don't panic and start ringing 111 etc just book a docs appointment.

Wellthisunexpected · 03/06/2018 22:03

@MrTrebus it's been 6 weeks since my mum first noticed it, definitely not panicking!

I'm pretty sure it's a cyst or fatty lump but I'll take him anyway.

If the lump moves under the skin it is very unlikely to be anything to worry about. Ds2 (4) has had one for a couple of years now. The dr referred him for a scan, and the consultant we saw afterwards said it was just a cyst, and generally if it is bad you won't be able to move it

Definitely go to GP. It will put your mind at ease. My DS has a lump on his foot, HV told me to see GP, we were in the consulting room less than 5 minutes, GP confirmed it's a cyst and harmless. I'm so glad I took him as I see it every day when he's getting dressed and I know I would fret every day if I didn't know. Call tomorrow and see when he can go to see the GP. Also, if nursery has mentioned it, they may be expecting you to take some sort of action.

JustVent · 03/06/2018 22:26

Sounds like lymph nodes.
