AIBU to ask preferred wedding venue to match their Groupon deal?

DF and I went to view a wedding venue and we loved it and very nearly put the deposit down on it. When we got home, someone mentioned that it was on Groupon for the same deal, the only things it didn't include where little things like chair covers and a centrepiece which is included in their normal package. All of the food on the menu is the same, you get one less drink with the wedding breakfast but I'm sure people would cope.

Overall though the saving would be over £2000.

They obviously didn't mention the fact that their venue was on Groupon when we were there but it's such a huge amount of money to save.

It's even cheaper to add on day guests in the voucher (works out at about £62 pp rather than £75)!

of course YANBU. it's a current groupon deal? if you approch direct and ask them to match they'll bite your hand off as Groupon take 50% of the money if you go through them (I've worked with Groupon a few times)

Why can't you just buy the group deal or are there restrictions when you can use it? - if there is then that's why it's cheaper.
I'd be disgruntled if I could have got it cheaper but paid full price.

If it's not a current deal on Groupon (in which case just buy that) then no I don't think you can ask them. Its like going into a shop and saying you should be allowed to pay less for a tshirt because they once had a tshirt sake.

*sale

Id ask them, you have nothing to lose - if they say no, then buy the groupon deal.

pasturesgreen · 03/06/2018 06:13

From your OP it sounds as though it's a current deal, why can't you just buy it through Groupon? Although do read and re-read the small print and then read it again some more

confusedlittleone · 03/06/2018 06:42

Make sure you read the small print most only cover weeekday weddings between certain dates

Oysterbabe · 03/06/2018 06:54

Just buy the Groupon deal then.

hejg283 · 03/06/2018 07:03

Yes it's a current Groupon deal and I want to book with the venue directly because then they will get more money but if they say no then I would just buy it through there anyway! The main thing in the small print is it's just an extra £250 for a Saturday

Ask them, obviously you'll need to match the price with the extra 250 but it's worth a try

Tartsamazeballs · 03/06/2018 07:09

We did exactly that. The venue preferred to deal direct with us rather than faffing with a Groupon because then they didn't have to pay a cut to Groupon.
