Espeicaly on a train or someone here enclosed. It seems people do it everywhere nowadays, even in the quiet carriage of a train. Often so loud I can hear it when hearing headphones.

Of course it's rude. If you do this, you're behaving like the whole world is your own front room, which sadly a lot of people do these days. Pisses me right off. No one says anything because they are afraid of repercussions, somewhat understandably, so the antisocial bullies get away with it

TheVanguardSix · 02/06/2018 22:12

I don't know why the people doing this aren't embarrassed!
There was a guy in his 60s sitting there, listening to his music at full volume on the bus and I actually leaned over and asked him to turn it off.
No one wants to hear it.
It's one of the weirdest cultural aspects of our time. We don't know how to give each other mental space or peace anymore. We've become so invasive.

llangennith · 02/06/2018 22:20

This really gets me cross! It’s so selfish and inconsiderate. Haven’t these people heard of headphones or earphones?

Lottapianos · 02/06/2018 22:20

'I actually leaned over and asked him to turn it off'

Very brave of you. How did it go?

puffyisgood · 02/06/2018 22:22

it's utterly despicable behaviour.

AnalUnicorn · 02/06/2018 22:24

Rude indeed.

SilverBirchTree · 02/06/2018 22:26

It’s rude.

But in a few minutes a crowd of mumsnetters will be here accusing you of being cruel towards SN children who ‘need’ to blast iPads and phones in public.

thegreatbeyond · 02/06/2018 22:32

Start dancing along to it appreciatively (if you are 40+ it works best. The young people don't like it ;)

FissionChips · 02/06/2018 22:32

YANBU. I’m often tempted to start playing my own music in retaliation.

Butterflykissess · 02/06/2018 22:37

It's children an ipads that annoy me. I don't mind it low so only the child or person next to them can hear but most times it's on full blast.

MiddleMoffat · 02/06/2018 22:37

My DP does this at home watching stuff on his phone in the living room and encourages the DDs too, its beyond rude and irritating. He says it like having the tv on, I say it is not as its an individual interacting with their phone, which nobody else can view, or be part of or interact wth and all I can hear is the shitty tinny sounds. I say what if I start watching you tube too? He sulks and huffs and puffs and gets all narky. Cock.

ToPlanZ · 02/06/2018 22:41

YANBU

I recently sat on a coach across from someone playing films with no headphones for six hours. Everyone around was looking more and more annoyed as time passed. In the end I snapped at him 'turn it down, it's too loud!'.

Tbf he immediately turned it off and put it away but shouldn't have needed telling.

Heroo · 02/06/2018 22:43

I hate this. It’s everywhere.

In the business class lounge at the airport on Friday a guy was watching something on his phone super loud. I asked him to turn it down, and he did.

dancinfeet · 02/06/2018 22:43

Its rude and annoying. We were once on the last leg of a 10 hour (nightmarish / delayed by bad weather) train journey and I had a banging headache and was exhausted. Cue some guy plonking down at the next train table and starts watching some god awful programme on his tablet with no earphones . He got short shrift from me because I was tired, pissed off and did not want to listen to it.

Heroo · 02/06/2018 22:47

On a flight befkre chrjstmans there were parents with small ish children next to me, across he aisle and behind me. All THREE CHILDREN WERE GIVEN IPADS WITH NOISE ON LOUD TO WATCH. It was awful. The one next to me was watching something incredibly irritating.

Asked her dad if he could give her headphones. No, don’t have any. Ok please turn the volume right down then. He looked annoyed. I was like “ok, so are you happy for me to play my film loudly as well? If so coolio”

I cannot tell you how mad it makes me. It just sums up the whole 'fuck you' attitude that seems to prevail nowadays. A complete disregard for anyone else's feelings, just 'I want to do it and I don't care about you'.

mnahmnah · 02/06/2018 22:55

I had it on a spa day recently!! Woman on lounger next to me played a video with loud music. I obviously stared at her. She didn’t even register.

Uyulala · 02/06/2018 22:56

It's even worse when it's rap music, with vile lyrics, and they're putting on a show, singing along. Angry

Muddlingalongalone · 02/06/2018 23:02

Vvv rude and annoying - apologies to my fellow passengers on the train last night who had to listen to me facetiming the children but they are away with exh. I meant to do it at work but just Didn't get a chance as things went Pete tong all pm.

Hilltoptea · 03/06/2018 03:04

Oh god this drives me nuts! I think it's a sign of what's to come from future generations sadly (And I'm only 26!)

So rude Angry

9amTrain · 03/06/2018 03:06

It pisses me off when my housemate does this indoors! I don't say anything because IABU probably but I wish she'd wear earphones seeing as she's constantly blaring some tinny sounding shitty YouTube video all day long.

imweirdandcool · 03/06/2018 04:05

Cringy and rude

EmpressOfSpartacus · 03/06/2018 04:30

Loathe this.

I don't normally say anything because if they think it's OK to inflict their noise on people, they might also think it's ok to punch anyone who objects. If I can move I do.

redcarbluecar · 03/06/2018 06:03

Re thegreatbeyond's suggestion - start 'dancing appreciatively' and you'd probably find yourself on a video on Twitter or similar. Depending on the quality of your moves perhaps....!

Can't understand why people would think it's ok to blast stuff out without any thought for others. It's as if phone technology has driven into our own little bubbles. I don't particularly want to hear endless ringtones, text alerts etc either in an enclosed public space. We have the useful facility to put phones on silent.
