Old £10 notes

I've just got back from shopping all day and realised that someone must have passed me an old paper £10 note in my change. My fault for not checking my change properly. Anyway, does anyone know if any of the banks will exchange it. Have also got a few old round one pound coins at home which I discovered a couple of months ago lurking in the bottom of one of my coat pockets. Would the banks exchange them too? Thanks.

Yes but some banks might not do a straight swap. I have to have it paid into my account.

MyDcAreMarvel · 02/06/2018 19:20

Yes, all notes promise to pay the bearer on demand .

ImFreeToDoWhatIWant · 02/06/2018 19:20

Yes they will still exchange both.

Coins are at banks discretion .

In the first instance I would try going into a branch of the bank at which you hold an account. They may accept old notes and coins, entirely at their discretion.

If they do not accept a note, then you need to go to, or send it to, the Bank of England: www.bankofengland.co.uk/banknotes/exchanging-old-banknotes

If your bank does not accept a coin, then you are stuck with it.

Post office will take it- they took mine last week, including round pounds.

Thanks everyone. Will give the local banks and Post Office a go on Monday.

Post office won’t change like for like on old money, you can however pay them into a bank account through the post office. I work for the post office if you hadn’t guessed 😂

I work in a bank: your own bank should just change it for u

I found what turned out to be an old note in a handbag I hadn't used for months. Presented it as payment at the Post Office last week, and the guy just pointed out that it was an old one (I hadn't noticed) and that he would accept it, but that normal shops wouldn't.
