Rucksacks in shops

You look like a German tourist, you take up an entire aisle width and you're annoying. These items are a public menace.

Travel mugs clearly add a whole new dimension of danger to an already antisocial item. She may as well have fitted razors to the outside and have done with it.

Is this the future you worked for? Peaky (German) rucksacks?

I have restricted mobility- I have to wear a backpack because I can’t carry bags while on crutches. If you don’t like it, go down another aisle. Your moaning is nothing compared to the discomfort and pain I deal with even going out so ya can take your opinion on my back back and shove it up your back entrance

Gileswithachainsaw · 02/06/2018 17:08

Are you one of those people who practically impregnate u in the cost a queue?

Why so resentful of having to respect some personal space?

Does long hair annoy you too when the wind blows and you get whipped in the face by a ponytail?

LeggyLinda · 02/06/2018 17:14

Backpack wankers we refer them as.
They obviously inhibit mental ability as most who wear them forget they have them and block escalators, walkways and trains. The only other explanation is that they are deliberately trying to assault people - which can’t possibly be true?

We have been known to adjust our commute to avoid these urban terrorists

Aeroflotgirl · 02/06/2018 17:16

These are said by driver who do not have to walk with their shopping home or get the bus. A rucksack makes it so much easier to carry shopping, instead of shopping bags cutting into my hands.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 02/06/2018 17:24

All rucksack owners need to be smacked around the ears with the heir own rucksacks the way they smack other innocent tube and train users and then the rucksacks need to be collected and burned. All of them.

mirime · 02/06/2018 17:30

I walk to work, that's why I have a backpack. Before I got it I was getting shoulder pain and sometimes tingling in my fingers if I was carrying lunch in a shopping bag.

Can't say I've ever clobbered anyone with it. I like my personal space though.

YABVU. I think it's much more unreasonable for perfectly healthy people to drive a few hundred meters to the shops.

specialsubject · 02/06/2018 17:49

if you are unfortunate enough to live in London and have to use the tube - sorry for you but people that reek of perfume or cigarettes or play the doofy doofy crap rap are far more offensive than those carrying stuff sensibly.

ALongHardWinter · 02/06/2018 18:24

I hate them on buses and trains as the wearer always manages to wack me around the side of the head with it as they walk past.

FrangipaniBlue · 02/06/2018 18:46

If you have such an aversion to rucksacks OP I'd suggest you don't ever visit us here in the Lake District 🤣🤣🤣🤣

RavenLG · 02/06/2018 18:56

How close are you standing to people in shops? A regular backpack takes up, what 30cm max of room? Why are you that close to people?

Exactly. Those people who, in a queue like supermarket / bus etc, like to stand as close as possible to you for no apparent reason then when you DARE move your position they get shirty. Maybe if you respected personal space of me and my bag I you wouldn't have gotten hit.

bluerunningshoes · 02/06/2018 18:58

yabu
backpacks are better for your back than carrier bags.

Orangecake123 · 02/06/2018 19:05

I don't have a handbag. I use my £20 addidas backpack.I'm used to doing that even if i'm going to the park- I can carry everything I need+ don't need to buy bags if I'm doing a small shop. Wink

SpitefulMidLifeAnimal · 02/06/2018 20:43

Another arthritic rucksack user here. I didn't choose to have arthritis, it just happened. Personally, I find prams and pushchairs more of an obstacle.

BorchesterTowers · 02/06/2018 21:02

Well, I don't drive: I don't use up precious and finite resources of space (all those car parks, motorways and drives ...) or oil, and I don't add personal pollution to this world by driving.

I walk or catch buses & trains. I carry my stuff in my backpack: my gym gear, my work stuff, my laptop and so on. I go shopping , and carry my purchases in my backpack. Shock horror Shock

It's your problem OP just get over yourself.

And there are far worse things to be in this world than German tourists. A casual racist, for example.

RunMummyRun68 · 02/06/2018 21:06

I didn't realise all this about rucksacks!

In our store rucksacks mean thieves, so we watch them like hawks Blush

diddl · 02/06/2018 21:09

"It looks really stupid on your back."

Who would care if it's a comfortable, easy way to carry stuff?

mumeeee · 02/06/2018 21:28

Why does it look stupid on your back?
That's how rucksacks are supposed to be worn.

FlixFlax · 02/06/2018 21:37

It looks really stupid on your back.

Fuck off, what a stupid thing to say. Fair enough to have a moan about people bashing you with backpacks but to say they look stupid is stupid. Hmm

specialsubject · 02/06/2018 21:41

because ickle floral handbags that have to be clutched look really sensible...Hmm

some people really are dumb fashion victims.

wrenika · 02/06/2018 21:42

I think a rucksack/backpack is a lot less of a nuisance than a woman's handbag! I generally use a backpack when I'm out and about because it's easier on the back and I can carry more in it than I could if I had a handbag.
What about prams, buggies, rogue children...there's loads of irritating things out and about. I wouldn't have ranked rucksacks high up on the frustration list!

Sparklingbrook · 02/06/2018 21:46

I remember going into a small gift shop and there being a sign to take backpacks off. I think wearers underestimate how much room they take up, and as they can't see it are completely oblivious to knocking everything flying.

I just use an across the body handbag. Too easy for people to rifle through a rucksack without you knowing.

BertieBotts · 02/06/2018 21:54

Grin I know exactly what you mean OP and I often use a backpack.

People should be aware of the space they take up. Some people are but others are frequently not.

What's even worse is German children's school bags. They are like rucksacks except they look gigantic on a tiny child and stick out about 40cm from the back (I am not exaggerating) and of course six year olds do not tend to have the best spatial awareness let alone being aware of the potential missile on their backs.

(I'm not being xenophobic. I live in Germany. I get infuriated even by my own offspring's bag. I wish they could just take bookbags like English children. It would be better for their backs as well.)
