To not want to tell work about breast augmentation.

I’m booked in for a breast augmentation later this year. I’m planning to ask for unpaid leave and take around three weeks after, but I don’t want to tell work what the time off is for. AIBU? What could I write in my time off request?

State operation/medical procedure . They don't need to know the nature of it

Heroo · 02/06/2018 13:33

“Medical procedure”

If pressed just say you’d rather not say what it is for.

UnapologeticallyUnhinged · 02/06/2018 13:34

Exactly what monkeysox said. I did that for my breast reduction 2 years ago. Someone asked if I was ok (out of concern more than nosiness) and I said it was a problem with my back (which was true!) but I could have said nothing.

Thank you all. I’ve been putting off mentioning it to them as I wasn’t sure what to say Grin

don't say anything. I had one a few years ago and hardly anyone noticed and if they did, they didn't say anything. Was really noticeable to me but people are actually surprisingly unobservent
Even my own family I got comments about looking great and had I lost weight and that was it.
You could always start gradually padding your bras in advance

SandyY2K · 02/06/2018 13:44

Most employers need you to say why you want the unpaid leave. 'Medical procedure' is good, but they may wonder why you aren't taking sick leave.

confusedlittleone · 02/06/2018 15:08

You'd have more luck using your annual leave

BearsandHearts · 02/06/2018 15:38

I took two weeks annual leave for mine and was ok to go back to work afterwards. I didn't tell anyone at the time.

kimlo · 02/06/2018 15:42

do you not get a sick note?

My sick note after having my tubes tied said gynecoligical procdure. As it happened work did know what it was, but it would have been easy enough for me to not tell them.

SarcasticMrKnowItAll · 02/06/2018 15:42

I took 2 weeks holiday for mine, I told them I was having an operation, hinted towards it being “female issues” my boss changed the subject pretty quickly 😄
The biggest problem for me was hiding the hideous support bra thing I had to wear afterwards!

bastardkitty · 02/06/2018 15:45

Have you taken unpaid leave before? It's not usual to assume it will be granted. You don't get a sick note for cosmetic procedures, obviously. Why woild you? If it was a breast reduction due to back problems, that would be different.

Ethylred · 02/06/2018 22:17

Umm, why try to conceal it?
Boob jobs are the sort of thing that people notice.
Otherwise there's no point in having one.

Branleuse · 02/06/2018 22:43

there are other reasons for having one.
I didn't want mine to be obvious
